troyunrau, in Pork Belly - I'm Okay, You're Okay, Everything is Okay (2024) [new release]

I am hungry now. And I don’t know why.

Eldritch, in NEW VIDEO/SINGLE: Every Day is Halloween by Creature Feature #postpunk #darkwave #goth

Just FYI this is not a Ministry cover. Though I’d like to see their spin on that as well.

Eldritch, in Lebanon Hanover - Alien

I have always loved this track for many reasons. As someone “undiagnosed” but with clear markers towards some mix of ASD. I identify with it pretty solidly.

sangriaferret, in The Church - Under The Milky Way

I remember when this song was released 35 years ago and I still listen to it regularly.

Eldritch, in The Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection

Good old andy. He and Prince both had such different responses to the same issues. I can’t blame him for his form of protest. Though I think in the long run Prince’s might have worked out a little better for him. But who am I to say really. Andrew is still an icon as are his songs. Still working and touring to this day. I just Lament The albums we will never get. The only way to hear the sisters new stuff is either to go to the concerts or through bootlegs. And sadly now when home recording is more viable and accessible than ever before. I think the sisters are sadly still held under their onerous contract.

Though even if they got out from it today. Andrew is so notoriously stubborn I doubt he would change what he’s doing in the slightest LOL. The drama between him and Wayne is relatively well known as well. It is how we ended up with the mission after all. Not the easiest guy to work with. But he definitely surrounded himself with a lot of top talent and was quite inspired himself.

Eldritch, in Kælan Mikla - Næturblóm

I came across this group a few months ago. Definitely way to late IMO. Fantastic sound. And everything tending to be in their native Icelandic. Only making the sound a bit more unique internationally.

encinoman, in The Jam - The Eton Rifles (1979)

damn they were ahead of the curve!

Eldritch, in SadSvit - Небо (Official video)

Reminds me just a bit of The Nightchild also out of Ukraine. They’d definitely be easy to pair in a set for sure.

encinoman,

I’ll have to check the out then :).

Eldritch, in Альянс - На заре (At dawn) USSR, 1987

Excellent tune. And fascinating to see something like this out of soviet Russia. Though just a few years before the dissolution. There wasn’t a ton of media crossover in that era. Definitely not overseas here. But you can still tell there definitely was some. Dude with the stache and the strip sunglasses was definitely feeling it though. Showing up the rest of the group for sure.

encinoman,

Yeah I found it a few years ago and was totally entranced by it. The bass line, the synth player, the stoic audience. Then the singer starts singing. I love this song and performance.

speck, in NEW SINGLE: Slowdive - skin in the game (Official Visualizer) #postpunk #shoegaze

Nice. Pygmalion is a seminal album for me. Kept me afloat at one point

Eldritch,

We’ll have to pick it up and give it a listen at some point. Being a young adult without much disposable income in the '80s and '90s stuck in the Midwest with only top 40 radio etc there was definitely a lot of stuff we missed. The internet has been a paradigm shift on that sort of thing.

speck,

In this age of access, I've made a soft rule to eventually retire well known bands so that I keep discovering what else is out there. There's so much great music that history has mostly passed by

Eldritch,

And someone who has streamed and dejed for the better part of 25 years. I don’t know that I could truly retire the classics. I know where you’re coming from though. But I damn well make sure that even if I use them as the basic structure for a set. I pack in as much new or obscure as I can. It’s great when someone enjoys a set in general. But my favorite part is introducing them to new material by far.

speck, in NEW SINGLE: Slowdive - skin in the game (Official Visualizer) #postpunk #shoegaze

Woah. Have they still been around this whole time or reemerging??

Eldritch,

Appears they took a break from 1995 till 2017. So re-emerging I’d say. We’re definitely in a bit of a revival of late it seems. Their official website has some posts/news back to 2014 relating to performances. So looks like they got back to performing a bit and felt like giving it another go :)

asparagus9001, in Games Without Frontiers: When Peter Gabriel Went Political I New British Canon

I’m not sure if “when Peter Gabriel went political” is some kind of attempt at a clickbait title but it’s pretty bizarre when Genesis’ first single after the false-start From Genesis to Revelation album (after which they went on hiatus and went back to school) was about violent revolution and Kent State, a decade earlier.

Eldritch,

Yeah I definitely think it was a bit clickbaity. And not the only one. But such is trying to appease the algo-gods I suppose. If you look at the title card for the video it actually has a different IMO better title.

Suppose I could go back in and enter it manually. But just was lazy and went with what was suggested and listed as the title.

  • Eldritch,

Yeah the essay absolutely sticks to the 70’s/80’s experimental period. These days he’s much more adult contemporary or maybe world music it seems. Which is fair enough. But yeah the 70’s and especially 80’s stuff will always have a special place for me for sure.

  • Eldritch,

Not that I remember. His videos tend to be rather narrative heavy. Pulling in a lot of footage for silent background B roll is the style he tends to go with. Sometimes throwing in short clips with the artist talking etc. But yeah That early synth stuff is always interesting. Watching some of the interviews Numan has done talking about how they changed his trajectory can’t help but pique your interests. Speaking of. Have you seen the documentary “I Dream of Wires”?
