I don't get it. Ads are ads. I block them all.

Not everyone blocks them. People still watch TV and use mainstream media apps like instagram. Ads can manipulate people's ideals and interests subconsciously. Ads are deceptive by nature. They're designed to prey on human nature and its faults. The world's majority opinion can be changed with a successful enough ad campaign.
