Makeitstop,

They want to oppose Trump, but also know that endorsing a Democrat would hurt their future careers in politics.

And honestly, they might actually have more of an impact this way since other Republicans will be more open to the idea that it’s OK to simply not support Trump. Many of those same voters would probably dismiss them as traitors if they actually said they were voting for Biden.

They aren't really never trump then eh?

TropicalDingdong,

You should expect precisely 0 Republicans, voters or politicians, to vote Biden.

Its why the strategies of targeted centrism & brow beating independents wont work.

Any voter who registered R is lost. They aren’t coming back. Its wasted effort to even try to recover them. You can get some votes from independents to the left of mainstream Democrats. But Biden has shown he doesn’t want these votes with his slow-walking of holding Israel accountable and his treatment and response to the student protests.

This leaves him with no material path to 270. Biden needs MN, MI, and WI. Enough “uncommitted” votes occurred in those primaries to send a message that without the left, Biden can’t win (and this already assumes a PA win, an AZ win, and keeping GA, all of which should probably be considered more difficult than taking MN, WI, and MI).

Biden’s path to 270 won’t involve Republicans, but he keeps campaigning (well he is barely campaigning) and governing like this is the group he needs to appease. Its what Hillary Clinton did in 2016. Her campaign ignored the upper mid-west and it cost her WI, and MI, and made a focused appeal to “moderates” and “centrists”. Interestingly she also came out of her groundhogs hole to tell the student protesters they were idiots had no knowledge world history.

This really has been Bidens election to lose the entire time and he sure is acting like it.

humorlessrepost,

My republican friends voted for Biden and will again. Granted this is a biased sample, because I don’t associate with Trump voters. And I agree targeting them will fail as a political strategy. But there’s no need to overstate it as “precisely zero republicans”. That’ll just make people who know better (pretty much everyone with right-leaning acquaintances) stop taking your comment seriously after your first sentence.
