SIMS 2 DISKS: Please Read

Since there has been an influx of posts asking about the disks, it's easier that we have a dedicated post for it.

The Sims 2 disks are outdated and the software on them is no longer supported, so quite often Windows will not run them. It is possible to get them running but we do not recommend it as you have to disable Windows services that are there to protect your computer.

You will have to make sure that you install the games in the correct order of release. You will also have to patch every expansion you install before you move onto the next one. The Sims 2 server was taken down in 2011 which means the disks can no longer patch themselves. If you do not do this, you will experience game-breaking bugs and higher levels of corruption than you would with a patched game.

You'll also have to deal with SecuROM which is known to cause a whole host of issues, such as disabling disk trays completely. It also stays on your computer, even when you uninstall Sims 2 and SecuROM, and you have to get a special tool to remove it that SecuROM released once they lost the lawsuit. You can read about it here.

Since we do not recommend using the disks, any posts asking about the disks will be removed with a link to this thread and the General Information page on the Wiki. Once you're on the Wiki, we advise that you read it thoroughly.

The main reason why we made this subreddit is because we got tired of typing the same thing over and over again when helping people. That is why we have the wealth of information in the Wiki. We require that everyone reads the Wiki before posting, where all of this information can be found, but a lot of people seem to be ignoring that message and just posting anyway.

Thanks for understanding.

Happy Simming!
