atomicpoet, I actually do like VR/AR.
Certain people like to dismiss VR/AR – but they’re not gamers. You know what the appeal of VR/AR is to me? Not just playing the game – entering it.
To me, VR/AR is pure escapism. That’s the point.
For this reason, on a fundamental level, I prefer Apple’s vision for VR over Meta’s vision.
I don’t want VR/AR to be “social”. I don’t want to talk to my family, but with silly Wii-like avatars. And I certainly don’t want to virtually commute to the office where I talk to virtual co-workers.
This is what I wish more people knew about VR/AR. I don’t want to live there. I certainly don’t want it to replace my actual life.
But would I like to slay dragons for a couple of hours or go for a deep dive of the ocean? Yes, I would.
