Does anyone wish they had the same community feel that Stardew does?

I’ve tried to become more connected with my community by going to activities around Halloween or Christmas time, or just general activities with the people I associate with. I just wish–and I know this is going to sound weird–there were more real people like Lewis the Mayor who organize community events in real life where I can take my family and participate in holidays with the community.

I’m going to try and do more things like that with my family and our friends, I’ve always loved the community feel that Stardew emulates. I want that for my family.

FrostKing,

Honestly, small towns like this very much still exist. I just had to move from a small town in Kansas and I sorely miss it. They may seem hard to find, but it’s because they’re the ones you don’t find on lists online.

Rukmer,

I wish I knew like anybody. I don’t know my neighbors and they don’t seem that friendly. My direct next door neighbor is shy like me, we get along well but we never socialize. Also we’re the only young (I mean not that young I’m almost 30 lol) people in our neighborhood. Everyone else is 60+ and not accepting of younger generations just being different (like how we use technology even and won’t send our kids to mow their lawn for 50 cents). I wish we had a multigenerational community where they acted like a good family like in Stardew Valley.

Drusas,

If you engage in certain types of volunteering, you can get a similar feel. It's not exactly the same as a community event, but you get to know people with similar values to yourself.

worfamerryman,

You could be that mayor Lewis. Someone has to build it.

SPOOSER,

Where would a random person start?

worfamerryman,

That’s a great question, and I guess it really depends on what you want to do and where you live.

Is first find a place to have the event and contact people who have authority there. If it’s your neighborhood, then the home owners association.

If it’s a park, then whoever runs the park.

I don’t live in America anymore and I could go to the neighborhood government about setting something up.

Tordoc,

Absolutely. Like you, I’m trying to get involved in/build up my local community. I tend to a small farm, so I’ve been taking a page out of Stardew’s book; it turns out most people really do like being gifted vegetables and animal products!

revelrous,

I wish my soul could be healed with a supply of jalapeños poppers and black coffee. 🙁 So far no dice.

I worked with a library to start a little community pumpkin carving contest once, 10 years later I think it still lives on. Contact your local chamber of commerce, they might be able to point you to some resources/partnerships.
