CheeryLBottom,

That is a spectacular photo

I agree. They picked a very good background to take the photos, and the owls themselves are very cuddly looking ones.

I came across an interesting article the other day I’ll have to share about staged owl photos. I didn’t get to read all of it, but it takes about the challenges of getting owl photos and the debate over adding a staged photo/video to nature documentaries.

So demure

The Tawny always makes me think of a Teddy Bear turned into an owl.

Long Eared Owl by trev.bird

This one the new off as the facial disc is a much different color than the North American ones I am familiar with.

Chetzemoka,

This one is my favorite. Is his face differently colored because of environment? Or because he’s juvenile?

I like it too, since it was able to fool me what type it was.

I believe the color morph is environmental. There is this post about localized Tawny Owl color morphs which seems to be a similar situation.

Chetzemoka,

Oh yeah! I even upvoted that post lol. That is truly a dramatic color shift. Really fascinating.

I do throw a lot of facts out there. Even I’m unsure at this point if I’ve posted things or not!
