To be a bit more seriously, I’m not from the US but I’d be very careful. The MAGA movement might very well start rounding up trans people and whoever else they don’t like. Something like a “Kristallnacht”. They absolutely could turn the US into a fascist dictatorship. I hate the neoliberals too but from a tactical viewpoint you really should vote for Biden.
Hindenburg was representing an institution more like the supreme court, similar to how the liberals on the supreme court in the US are currently doing mental gymnastics to allow an insurrectionist to run for president, he allowed Hitler to grab power. I get the joke but it’s actually relevant in another way - failure to oppose fascism by well meaning (or edgy) people.
Never have I seen someone let Hindenburg off so easily. So what you are saying is you should vote to oppose fascism…so that the institution can then let them into power anyways? Hindenburg WON and he still put Hitler in power. So why vote Biden exactly?
How did I say so? I said Biden isn’t Hindenburg because… their constitutional roles are different. Reichspräsident is a completely different institution meant to provide representation and democratic checks. So the better (but still bad) analogy would be what the US supreme court is doing.

So the answer is that Trump / Hitler should have been defeated at the ballot box and not have gotten the majority of the votes. Because you can’t trust democratic institutions to do it for you. And that’s not excusing Hindenburg either.
People back then did not understand the depth of the horrors fascism was capable of. If you think Biden is as bad as Trump and MAGA then you’re the bourgeoisie Hindenburg.

Stewart and Nate Silver have both been very effective at selling the lib “strategy” to the masses for awhile. Stewart obviously had a bigger impact but Silver was pretty important for convincing the more online to vote for liberals and they’ve turned on both of them this week lmao

He just fundamentally did not understand American politics and the culture/society around it, which meant all his jokes fell flat. There may be many similarities between South Africa and the United States, but there are also many key differences. That kind of thing is important to understand when your entire job revolves around making jokes about American society and politics, and he just did not get it.
