zeppo, in Could someone help me identify what this one is called? 🌼
@zeppo@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a flower for sure. Oh, I believe it’s called a Pot Marigold.

Sunny,

Great! Thanks I wasn’t totally sure, but you definitely clarified that one 🤠

ME5SENGER_24, in Hops (Humulus lupulus), UK

Mmm beer [insert Homer Simpson emoji here]

feedum_sneedson, in Large Bindweed (Calystegia silvatica), UK

Always called it “hedge” bindweed to distinguish it from field bindweed. Think I might have been making that up, though.

GreyShuck,
@GreyShuck@feddit.uk avatar

I understand the name Hedge Bindweed to refer to Calystegia sepium - very similar but separate species. All to do with the bracts, which you can’t see in this shot at all.

feedum_sneedson,

Interesting, thank you.

p_diablo, in Hawkweed (Hieracium ?), Michigan, USA

Thx. I always called these “not-dandelion-things.”

TropicalDingdong, in Dwarf Mallow (Malva neglecta), UK

MMmmmmm…

invasives…

WintryLemon, in Common Toadflax (Linaria vulgaris), UK
@WintryLemon@lemmy.world avatar

They look a lot like snapdragons. Very pretty.

Yantantethera, in Bramble (Rubus fruticosus agg.), UK

Whoa hoa black Betty!

Odonata, in Broadleaf stonecrop (Sedum spathulifolium) [OC]

Seriously… beautiful.

Odonata, in Columbian Lily (Lilium columbianum) were also quite prolific

I want my front yard to look like that!

Odonata, in À red rose in Switzerland

Looks like a comfortable pillow!

Odonata, in Viper's Bugloss (Echium vulgare), UK

So beautiful and enigmatic!

feedum_sneedson, in Great Mullein (Verbascum thapsus), UK

Apparently the dried stalks are the best thing for fire-by-friction using the hand drill method. I don’t know what the best baseplate is for that but seem to recall ivy was good, if you can get a big enough piece? Maybe someone else can remember better.

I need to find a good place where there’s a bunch of mullein growing and collect a hundred dead stalks, finally learn hand drill fire starting. Bow drill is reliable enough if you’ve got the stamina, you’ll basically get there eventually. But I hear hand drill is a massive pain.

Bryony87, in White Bryony (Bryonia alba), UK

Love the pic!

GreyShack,

Ha! I can see that you have a particular connection.

I’m glad you like it though.

Track_Shovel, in Yarrow (Achillea millefolium), UK

pro-tip. Crush up its leaves in your hands; they smell really nice.

Lonicera, in Need help identifying please

You’ve got pansies, daisies, daffodils, roses, poppies and i think that’s it. None are really “wildflowers” though, but i love ‘em anyway! Cool song, the dancing was neat!
