GoodEye8,

Except European countries don’t have the exact same problem that the US has, which mean that specific issue isn’t caused by capitalism.

GoodEye8,

We have historical example of the USSR where despite being a “socialist” country it was a one party system that did not represent everyone.

You can do socialism and still get the politics wrong. That means capitalism or socialism is not the cause of every political problem. The same problem with the US can still happen even if the US was a socialist country. Similarly you can be a capitalist country and not have the problem US has, because the problem in the US is how the political system is built up not how capitalists use the system to their benefit.

GoodEye8,

Voters are a part of that system. Who decides who comes into power? The voters. If literally nobody votes for democrats or republicans neither could come into power. The people have kept the system in place as much as the two parties.

GoodEye8,

Your options are limited because the overall system is shit. You won’t get more options until the entire political system is reformed and that’s why I’m saying everyone is to blame, because the signs have been there for a long time.

Right now blaming the democrats does nothing because you still have to vote democrat, the alternative is a fascist who will try to completely break down the democratic apparatus. After the election Americans should start constantly demanding a reformation of the system because it no longer serves the people.

GoodEye8,

Let me give you a hypothetical. First of all “good guys” is entirely subjective, but since you’re unhappy with democrats and republicans let’s say any party on the left side of the right-left political spectrum are the “good guys”. Now, let’s imagine democrats are left/center-left party and republicans are a far-left party. Since all parties on the left are good guys your choices are now all good guys. But in the context of the system one party is still more of a good guy then the other, one is more left than the other.

That means in the context of the system the good guys are designated by the options given within the system. When the options are corporate bootlickers vs batshit insane corporate bootlickers one of them is clearly better than the other. It doesn’t matter that in the wider picture both are bad because those are the options the system presents.

GoodEye8,

So in a socialist country this could never happen?

GoodEye8,

That’s just Hillary being unable to read the room, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone.

GoodEye8,

What democratic measures USSR had in place?

And what would’ve prevented USSR from creating a second party, similarly to the US, to make it seem like the communist party was what people wanted?

GoodEye8,

Kinda disingenuous to blame the democrats when the system has been flawed for decades and should’ve been fixed a long time ago. Democrats are to blame, republicans are to blame and Americans in general are to blame for their shitty political system.

GoodEye8,

You’ve inadvertently pointed out how Tesla deliberately skirts the law. Teslas are way more capable than what level 2 describes, but they choose to stay as level 2 so they wouldn’t have to take responsibility for their public testing

GoodEye8,

He wasn’t even homeless. He got a roof over his head pretty much day 1-2, and it was some guy who drove 10 miles to get him (which is pretty sus). He was able to keep himself clean and presentable and had a place he could easily manage his new business. That is already way more than what the average homeless has access to

GoodEye8,

I get what you’re saying on principle, but the reality is that the world does not work like that. There’s a reason populism is often a quick way to get to power, because you just promise whatever people want to hear so you could be elected. People don’t vote based on logic, people vote based on emotion, which means people don’t consider what is realistic, they consider what speaks to them.

GoodEye8,

What gave you that impression?

Leaked NYT Gaza Memo Tells Journalists to Avoid Words “Genocide,” “Ethnic Cleansing,” and “Occupied Territory” (theintercept.com)

The New York Times instructed journalists covering Israel’s war on the Gaza Strip to restrict the use of the terms “genocide” and “ethnic cleansing” and to “avoid” using the phrase “occupied territory” when describing Palestinian land, according to a copy of an internal memo obtained by The Intercept....

GoodEye8,

That would be a quality black humor skit. A reporter walks down the street and finds a blow up torso. “This guy must’ve fallen out a window or something”. He continue walking and sees people getting lined up. “Just rounding up some thieves”. As he passes they all get shot. “what was that?”. Add a few more horrific images and eventually the reporter finishes his report with “as you can see, no violence is happening in Gaza”.

GoodEye8,

Well I tried and failed to find any other reason for your comment beyond plain spite. Maybe instead of trying to put others down you take a hard look at yourself, because you’re coming across as a complete piece of shit.

Tesla’s in its flop era (www.theverge.com)

When Tesla releases its first quarter earnings this afternoon, the company’s CEO Elon Musk will field the usual questions about new products, new factories, and progress toward its futuristic vision of self-driving cars and robot workers. But Musk will also face increasingly urgent questions about its current state of affairs...

GoodEye8,

Depends on what you mean by “recover”. It might recover in the sense that the entire company won’t go bankrupt and will find a sustainable way to continue existing, but it will never recover to the current stock worth. Tesla has been grossly overvalued as whatever huge potential it had has been squandered. The stock will drop regardless of what Tesla does and it’s highly unlikely it will ever reach such worth ever again.

GoodEye8,

The AI can’t go full nazi. The AI can’t even go half-nazi. AI is a tool and how we use the tool determines the perception of nazism. Let me put it a bit differently. There are no Nazi guns, the MP-40 submachine gun does not stop working when given to a jew. It is a gun developed and used by the Nazis but it doesn’t make the weapon inherently Nazi. We call it a Nazi gun because we associate it with nazism.

We can develop an AI to act more like a Nazi (see the Gab AI prompt that tries to make the AI act more right-wing) and we can prompt AI into saying Nazi shit, but it doesn’t mean the AI itself is inherently Nazi. The responses it gives we can associate with nazism but it’s not like the AI itself is inherently nazi. In the end it’s just a tool. The problem isn’t generative AI, the problem is us. More specifically the problem are the people who want the AI to do Nazi shit. Let’s not blame the tools for our shortcomings.

And to clarify, I don’t think those protections aren’t necessary. They are necessary because we need to protect ourselves from our collective stupidity.

GoodEye8,

Well they actually changed the motto because “don’t be evil” was too ambiguous. The motto now is “do the right thing”. It’s now okay to be evil, as long as you’re “doing the right thing”.

GoodEye8,

I had to look it up. It was Fallout Frontier and it’s controversial because there’s all sorts of sex related shit that is really questionably presented. Like there’s a deathclaw in heat and the game supposedly goes in-depth with how much the deathclaw wants to mate with the player. There’s also some fucked up shit like one of your companions gets raped and you can comfort her with “Why are we still here? Just to suffer”.

I didn’t remember the details but I did remember the community pretty quickly going from hype to not even talking about the mod.

GoodEye8,

Alaska was first settled by Russians so that’s the only part he could have a claim, if you forget the fact that the Russian empire sold Alaska to America.

GoodEye8,

And yet Putin has expressed his desire to take some states of the United States, and claim them as property of Russia. How does he justify that?

I responded to that. How was I supposed to know that you randomly deciding to continue talking about California was the real point?

GoodEye8,

Honestly I don’t think the engine is the big problem here. There are some issues that are engine related but from a technical perspective the engine is not why Starfield failed. Making the most boring perk choices is not an engine problem. Putting the quests on rails with the illusion of choice is not an engine problem. Replacing the entire space travel aspect with menus wasn’t an engine problem because the star systems were to scale. The core issue is the game design. It’s simply that the game is plain boring. The perks are boring. The starpowers are boring. The way to get starpowers is boring. The quests are boring. The enemies are boring. Every other weapon besides kinetic weapons is boring. How do you decide to make space game without actual space travel still boggles my mind.

I think if Bethesda had taken the time to get the design aspect of the game in a good place people would’ve given them a pass on the loading screens or needing to jump ship to get to the next cell on the planet or even the poor performance. When the best part of your game is the ship builder, that offers minimal gameplay experience, you’ve fucked up the design. I don’t know if it’s Todd calling the bad shots or the lack of new blood, but Bethesda is in need of a shakeup.

GoodEye8,

But at this stage where do you go if you want to compete for wins? The only team closest to competing with RBR is Ferrari and he’s getting kicked from there. McLaren is happy with Norris and Piastri, Aston signed Alonso and are unlikely to let Stroll go (even though they should), which leaves only Merc.

Merc is in the third year of not really understanding their car and there’s no reason to believe they’ll do better next year. It’s also very likely that Merc is planning to eventually give the seat to Antonelli. Why would Sainz go into a struggling team where he’s unlikely to be competing for the wins and is likely to get kicked when the team gets good again? I think it makes more sense to go to RBR, take whatever wins you get when Max is having a bad day, keep your stock up and try to get a position in the next team that might actually fight for the championship.

GoodEye8,

Kind of a meta comment, but maybe we can merge race and post race posts? I feel like having two posts doesn’t really have any benefits while having the downside of splitting discussions about the same thing.

GoodEye8,

This is why I have no faith in AM becoming a top team. Lance is good enough to be a F1 driver, but he isn’t good enough to be a championship winning driver. Even if AM had the best car on the grid, they couldn’t win the WCC because Lance would still struggle to get the necessary points.

Building the team around your weakest link means the team will never be strong.
