@Robert_Vinson @melmc The fact that so many so-called "libertarians" are now pro-life is a big part of why I don't call myself one anymore.
I don't see how you can square the circle of being supposedly in favor of individual liberty and bodily autonomy, and also believe that the state owns part of a woman.

Also, I'm not an Objectivist anymore either, but I still love throwing this live grenade into threads:

@Robert_Vinson @melmc I'm actually not entirely against the death penalty in concept either, I think certain people aren't going to reform and there's just no other way. I just don't trust our government (or any) to be the arbiters of who gets to live and die, especially considering how much of a disaster the American legal system is.
That's a nuanced issue as far as I'm concerned.
Abortion is not. A fetus isn't a person, it's part of a woman's body, and if she wants to get rid of it so be it.
The whole issue has been inflated out of proportion by the media to create divisions, because it's very incendiary and keep people in the Left/Right binary instead of thinking for themselves or asking why the government is shipping all our money overseas while our country is literally falling apart.

No, your logic is flawed.
How does a woman not have autonomy to something growing inside their own body?
How do you claim be in favor of small government while also supporting the state forcing someone to experience what is effectively 9 months of torture only to bring a child into the world that's going to be unwanted, and then live a terrible life of pain that could have been avoided if you followed the mothers wishes?
These are the hypocrisies that made me abandon the right.

I'll meet you half-way on this after a certain point in the pregnancy, when what you've got can be more recognizable as the building blocks of a human, but if we're talking about a zygote or a bundle of cells, no it doesn't.

Bro, I'm a guy. I'm even straight now. I'm just principled about this, and I think that if you're against government controlling/taking away your speech, money, property, or expression (as you should be), you have to also be against it controlling your body.
So yeah, I do seek that; not for myself, but for others. I'm also in favor of legalizing prostitution for the record, I get the impression we might differ on that one too...
