Nuuskis,

So there’s no risks for regular users if they get hacked? Asking for learning purposes.

Nuuskis,

Thanks for the explanation!

Nuuskis,

Thanks a lot for telling me!

Nuuskis,

There isn’t any other IT company in the whole world which can compete with System 76 in quality of service. Truly stunning.

Dualboot with Linux Mint and Win 10 Pro. How to stop Windows 10 from overriding my boot order in BIOS on every restart?

My PC (self built with Asus motherboard) was a Linux-only machine until I added a fresh install of Win10 on a separate drive using Ventoy. I use Linux Mint 95% of the time and want to automatically boot into Linux, preferably without showing GRUB. I have Fast Boot turned off, and I keep resetting the order in BIOS only to have...

Nuuskis,

I give you 3 options and you google them and choose the one which suits you the best. 1. Change the boot order in your bios (Mint drive first) 2. Install package ‘os-prober’ and then update-grub (Win10 will appear in Grub) 3. Install rEFInd to replace Grub and choose everytime which OS you want to boot (set timeout by yourself). Warning: theming the rEFInd is known to be addictive.

Nuuskis,

Check from psref of X200 is the sim card reader for 2G or 3G internet. Then check is it enabled in the bios.

If you’re using Linux, then read this: wiki.archlinux.org/…/ThinkPad_mobile_Internet

Nuuskis,

Hopefully they at least have ssd and 8gb ram.

Nuuskis,

Does the greek keyboard layout offer a fast switch into latin letters? How does ‘Linux’ look like in greek letters?

Nuuskis,

It isn’t actually a file manager. It is called a “file picker” and has been a reason to rant as long as I can remember, so close to a decade.

Nuuskis,

I know this doesn’t help but I think the file picker is by far the worst feature Linux has ever had. And our opinions are quite common among Linux users.

Finally over (discuss.tchncs.de)

High school is finally over! That being said, having chosen a technical school, I, like others, was asked to create a project to be shown during the oral interview with the exam commission. This post is meant to be sort of a postmortem for it. Now, my goal was to create some sort of PLC, capable of controlling high power loads....

Nuuskis,

With this pace your future will be brighter than sun!

What does the "Files linked to the current activity" setting mean in the Location tab of Destkop Folder Settings? (lemmy.world)

I came across this setting, but I’m not sure what it does. What is an activity? What are the files of that activity? I watched this video, so I have an idea of what activities are, but it still doesn’t clarify what this setting does.

Nuuskis,

Activity is almost the same as virtual desktops.

Nuuskis,

Kali isn’t meant to be a desktop OS. Use it only in VM or in a spare rig. It is meant to be a toolbox. So dual boot it with your daily driver OS or use in a VM.

Your Mac can take Linux just well: djharper.dev/post/…/running-linux-on-my-macbook/

For your 300 bucks budget look nothing else than Thinkpad T480 or HP Dev One. T480 will need replacement batteries if not replaced yet.

Successfully been using Linux over a year for work & school

I realized today - after using my laptop to give a presentation at work - I have nearly completed transitioned from Windows as an operating system for work and school for the past year in favor of Linux Mint (specifically XFCE) on my laptop. Super interesting to step back and analyze this and recognize just how easily this...

Nuuskis,

If you don’t have Nvidia gpu, then try LMDE and here’s why: forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=374128

LMDE6 will be out within weeks and brings many great updates. IMO the regular version should be only used with Nvidia gpu.

Nuuskis,

If System 76 can offer open source firmware for their Intel laptops, then why Lenovo can’t?

Nuuskis,

There's an app called BlackHole, but the music library it provides is very small and oriented in music from India.

Nuuskis,

Try Manjaro Sway. Wayland can't get any better than with Sway. Of you prefer to not read the docs and confog by yourself, then go with KDE. Literally zero reasons to use xorg anymore. I've used Sway 2-3 months after dwm and regret a lot I didn't switch earlier to Wayland.

Nuuskis,

Who's surprised? IBM is owned 8% by Blackrock so this shouldn't surprise anybody.

Nuuskis,

Which is just a good thing. Fragmentation has gone way too wide just to confuse the first-time users. Less projects with more working hands leads to a better solution.

The mobile linux is silly as well. 3 separate projects while none is ready. Still they all flood the aur with mobile apps.

Why there must be Cinnamon, XFCE and LxQt while they all looks 100% the same for end-user, but none supports Wayland, VRF or HDR? Those are standards which attracts first-time users than never-ending and confusing comparison between distros and DE's.

Nuuskis,

Why everybody creates their own project instead of joining the current ones? Bus factor is a good measure in any small project.

Nuuskis,

Fair enough.
