ParanoidPizzas,

I went way overboard speccing mine so thenAussie tax was a big hit. Including the RAM & SSDs I sourced separately, over $5K ๐Ÿ˜ญ I find the FW13 is reasonable comparable to similar 13in laptops, but the FW16 is pricier than comparable 16in laptops. Windows ones that is. As Iโ€™ve specced it its a total bargain compared to a 16in Macbook. That said, I was willing to eat the price difference for the modularity, the potential for future upgrades & to back Frameworkโ€™s mission.

Also yes, Iโ€™m also desperately waiting for the release of an oculink module.

FW16 Backpack (aussie.zone)

Just a heads up for anyone looking for a backpack that comfortably fits the FW16, especially with the GPU installed. I received my FW16 last week, have spent the week trying to find a backpack that fits. I had a few that came close, but all were either uncomfortably tight on the GPU or far too tight on the edges (i.e. not likely...

ParanoidPizzas,

If itโ€™s acrylic paint itโ€™ll typically scrape off tiles easily. Try using a spatula thatโ€™s not likely to scratch the tile (I.e. a plastic one rather than a sharp metal one)

Framework 13 AMD 3.05 BIOS Update (community.frame.work)

After the 3.03b Beta it looks like the release version is out. Good news for people with USB-PD charging issues. My own anecdotal experience: I have a few USB-PD chargers that refused to handshake with with my FW13s including one big Satechi unit. Since the update all are working happily.

ParanoidPizzas,

Not just big and heavy. Old monitors were deep. Corners were a great place to dump all that wasted depth.

ParanoidPizzas,

I should have been more specific. Yes itโ€™s the Secure Pocket Rocket

Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive - Connectors (frame.work)

This is likely our last Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive before we start shipping, and those of you who ordered one can dive deep on your own. We began mass production of Mainboards last week, which weโ€™ll hold onto as we resolve the last few remaining open items to begin full system manufacturing....

ParanoidPizzas,

Loving the continuous transparency from Framework. Bought one for myself, when my father needed a new laptop got him onto the framework bandwagon. Now my wife has informed me to start budgeting - she wants one next year. Their behaviour to date is why Iโ€™m willing to get behind them & their products.

Reflecting on my Year with the Framework Laptop 13

@framework

Iโ€™ve been loving this laptop. Hope you enjoy the review!

ParanoidPizzas,

Dual booting Mint & Windows. Working a treat

ParanoidPizzas,

How performant does it need to be? Whatโ€™s the nature of the read/write behaviour? If it fits the profile of โ€œfast USB driveโ€ then you could potentially get away with 2 of these (frame.work/au/en/products/storage-expansion-card?โ€ฆ) configured in software raid and boot your OS off the internal nvme. That said, I feel youโ€™d get more mileage with a second hand (and cheap!) micro PC for your paperless instance and save the framework as a laptop

ParanoidPizzas,

Notesnook

Go for the pain tier (even though itโ€™s FOSS) 100% worth it.

ParanoidPizzas,

Ahh autocorrect ๐Ÿคฆ

ParanoidPizzas,

Get the AAWireless instead ๐Ÿ˜‰

ParanoidPizzas,

  • latest beta firmware includes Android Auto over CarPlay
ParanoidPizzas,

Screenshots of the config screen attached. Iโ€™m not connected to the unit right now, hence the error message.

ParanoidPizzas,

I havenโ€™t tried the multiple phone song and dance on the unit. It lives in my old 4x4 which my wife refuses to drive.

We do have a similar issue with our other car however '05 Subaru Forester (non Android Auto). It randomly connects phones - as in I can be sitting in the car, start up to go somewhere and the car connects to my wifeโ€™s phone while she and it are in the house. The only reliable option Iโ€™ve found (only practical if weโ€™re both in the car) is to quickly tap Bluetooth off on one phone before starting the car. If your Honda is starting with a Bluetooth connection, then Iโ€™m guessing the same solution should work.

ParanoidPizzas,

No stress, glad I pointed you down a hopefully workable path. Good luck mate ๐Ÿ˜‰ And yes the US tax. Purchased mine from Amazon US, Iโ€™m down in Australia. Even with the higher cost it has been an absolute joy even with my single-phone use case.

ParanoidPizzas,

Never had any issues with the unit. As mentioned I have an old 4x4 with an aftermarket head unit (Sony XAV-AX5000) and have never experienced any audio issues. This car is our family โ€œadventure vehicleโ€ so we use it for long road trips and camping adventures - in short when it gets driven itโ€™s often for a longer multi-hour journey, with music playing the whole way

ParanoidPizzas,

Threema

Where Signal is secure - Threema is private and secure (e2e encrypted, uses PFS but doesnโ€™t need your phone number for sign ups. You can be 100% anonymous should you wish)

ParanoidPizzas,

Was a genuine challenge. I ended up purchasing a copy for my whole family so everyone can use it.
