TruckBC, to canadalabour in Canada: union rejects 2% raise when inflation at 8%

I mean… They’d be kind of silly to accept a 2% increase in wages when inflation is much higher than that. That’s not a raise that’s a pay cut

Yes it will need to be redone.

Your “pointless Ted Talk” is greatly appreciated.

Would be interested in knowing what kind of future projects we’re thinking about?

Other than a potential matrix server, I do not currently have anything in mind. The future is unpredictable.

An example of a non-profit effort that I took on in the past is COVID PPE 3D printing with volunteer community printers. If something like that was needed for pandemic or disaster relief again would be nice to not have to go through the trouble of spinning up a new non-profit.

I think we can definitely work with Canadian Open Source Communication Association. Maybe swap out Communication for Community.

TruckBC, to main in What're the odds lemmy.ca has a sister mastodon instance?

I’ve reached out to both the mstdn.ca admin as well as the CIRA.

TruckBC, to main in New Admins, Server Upgraded

Lemmy.ca is hosted on OVHcloud as they have a Canadian data center. If you’re not specifically looking for a Canadian server, there’s many other options that are priced more attractively.

TruckBC, to canada in New COVID-19 subvariant EG.5 confirmed in Manitoba

I never had COVID until everyone stopped caring about it. I’m on my 4th time having now.

Do not recommend.

TruckBC, to vancouver in B.C. Ferries in damage control before busy long weekend

I really don’t believe their story that they are going to actually have enough crew available to have every single vessel in the fleet sailing.

I’ll believe it when I see it

TruckBC, to random in Announcing the Launch of CommunityRequests

Unfortunately it’s a bigger problem than you’d imagine it is. There are numerous fairly active committed that are essentially unmoderated at this point

TruckBC, to britishcolumbia in Growing B.C. wildfire closes Highway 20 | Winnipeg Free Press

I’m just curious, any reason everything you post seems to be from the paywalled WinnipegFreePress.com?

I’m getting an uneasy feeling about that.

TruckBC, to main in New user interfaces available on lemmy.ca!

It’s not a massive complaint, but I’d hope “m.lemmy.ca” would be reserved for something more OS agnostic.

Yup. I get what you’re saying now. It doesn’t fit indeed. And yes m.lemmy.ca will be reserved for something more OS agnostic.

TruckBC, to vancouver in B.C. transportation minister vows to raise fines, recover repair costs after overpass strike

Average amount of on the job training a driver gets when hired is probably half a shift. You’re expected to know and be able to do it without any additional training.

I think that’s totally wrong and bullshit but that’s what’s going on out there. Where I work it’s 4-6 weeks full time for a driver with experience, 6 weeks to 10 weeks or so usually for a new driver, we’ve had at least one do 6 months+. We’re a definite outlier tho and probably do the most on the job training out of any trucking company in BC.

TruckBC, to english in Hello members of English Usage and Grammar.

There was no need to capitalize the word ‘grammar’

I’m going to blame that on using swipe/gesture typing. I definitely do know it shouldn’t have been capitalized. Honestly though I’m surprised that’s the only thing you found considering English is my third language.

TruckBC, to main in New user interfaces available on lemmy.ca!

I’ll keep that in mind, and I’ve just had a realization, we can set up all the donation options and just not “cash out” until we’re determined non-profit status and how we’re going to set up the financial side of it.

TruckBC, to main in New user interfaces available on lemmy.ca!

I’m curious why you say that. Seems to work fine on Android in browser.
