andOlga

@andOlga@mastodon.social

I'm a lesbian, a programmer (mainly web stuff but sometimes I make things that are entirely insane), a writer (when I get some damn time for it) and a part of a plural system (see: https://morethanone.info), though I am the only one on here with an actual account.

I enjoy, in order of preference: porn, visual novels, video games, manga and anime.

ok guys we need to come up with a way to say that something exists

EN: "there is"
Where?

DE: "it gives"
What??

FR: "he has"
WHO??!!?

...

FR: actually I'm just going to add a y in the middle of that sentence there. "he y has".
WHY!?

andOlga, to random

sometimes I'm like
my mouse/keyboard must be broken wrong buttons are being pressed way too much
but no
I am just that physically exhausted

andOlga,

I have noticed that for some reason when I am sleepy I start holding down the right mouse button accidently and for decently long periods of time (a minute or more) for no real reason and then I'm surprised at the context menu that inevitably pops up when I release it
idk why I do this

I'm not really a fan of sacrificing quality for convenience, but why is adding search engines on Firefox so cumbersome!? Desktop browsers will just let you add the search engine if you visit their pages, and there are way more options I want than Google or DuckDuckGo.

andOlga,

@limepeep oh god this is so stupid but
They have two ways of adding a search engine
one of them only works in the fucking address bar and is basically the normal way other browsers do it, you right-click on a search box and "add a keyword to this search". And to search you type that keyword in the address bar and then your query
The second one is based on fucking extensions and works in the separate "search" box that you may have enabled, best to just turn it off since it's not customizable

Masturbation but all the feelings that come from it are delayed by a couple hours

Train WiFi is just unusably bad. It massively affects my productivity, it must wreak havoc across the economy.

Surely it isn't that difficult in this day and age, is it? Just for emails I mean, not expecting crystal clear video calling

andOlga,

@chrisbeeley "Train wifi" is a glorified mobile data connection that is shared among several hundred users... there's basically no way for that to be good. Unless your data plan is really badly capped using that instead will almost always work better, since it's the same thing but directly.

self-deprecation (humorous)

andOlga, to random

I believe I have a new favorite word.

realised now that Mastodon's filter feature also applies to alt-text on images, which is another good reason to use it

andOlga, to random

On a tangential note: if your app's wobsite has a page entitled "How it works" and you just describe basic UI usage on it instead of delving into the protocols, libraries and systems you chained together, you have failed your kind

andOlga, to random

playing genshin and HSR side by side made me realise just how much that one saying about badly explained technology just being magic rings true

The two are used to justify the exact same type of stuff in fiction. Teleportation, communication, various "advanced" weaponry, etcetc

People living in magical worlds take magic for granted (some exceptions), people living in sci-fi take tech for granted

both have their own kinds of spellcrafters (programmers/engineers)...

andOlga,

seeing the exact same mechanics with two different presentations really drives the nail home

and also explains why I tend to gravitate towards sci-fi more

Because I am that kind of magician, bitch, praise my unlimited power to bend this world to my will

andOlga,

btw: this is not a complaint about HSR reusing too much from Genshin or whatever, it just didn't fix what wasn't broken. The UX and most of the overworld navigation stuff was already just fine so keeping it makes sense

The games still feel very different despite UI reuse

Lately, I noticed that some sites... or rather, companies do dumb stuff without they realize they do dumb stuff... It's like some kind of "Elon-Musk-Syndrome" going on or sth like that. Making dumb decisions without thinking about it, what it does and whatnot... or is it just me?

andOlga,

@MetroidCatcher I mean this isn't new, companies pulling absolutely idiotic stunts has been a thing for as long as I've been alive at the very least, potentially forever.

When you spend several years with INFINITE MONEY you apparently get very disconnected from reality.

There's something mysterious about qr codes. A blob of ink splattered on paper like an ancient language, beyond human comprehension, requiring the assistance of a higher power to even begin to decipher, and a tiny block moving left or right could be the difference between a grocery store and a nuclear meltdown

But also stop fucking using them I can type a damn URL on my own

andOlga,

The biggest problem with these is that they demand your action immediately

If I see something that interests me with a link on it I can check it out back home by merely memorizing the link

If it's a QR code I have to decide between checking it right now (since scanning takes a while, switching to the right app etc), or just giving up on it altogether

andOlga,

...And this is why QR code panties should be a thing, taking you to the girl's porn clips page.

Missed your chance while she was bending over? Better luck next time.

Where does one go to register a domain name these days? I've used "Go Daddy" only because I chose it 20 years ago and just kept paying the bills. (I don't need a lecture on how they suck, just a reliable affordable alternative)

andOlga,

@njudah Using namecheap myself and can't complain much about anything, but I'm not necessarily sure that's the best option, just one that works for me.

If you live in a country where this service works (I don't), Google Domains is also considered pretty good from what I hear.

andOlga, to random

I wish trans girls making porn would stop self-deprecating so much...

Like calling their cock a "surprise" or writing stuff like "if you saw this under my skirt would you still fuck me" or shit like this

Like. Listen. Girls having a cock is just a normal thing nowadays. It's not surprising to anyone. Nobody in their right mind is going to "not fuck" you purely cause of that, either.

Please stop, this is just damaging to everyone, yourself included.

andOlga, to random

I want whatever fucking magic gmail has in their compose dialog to be available to me in every textbox

The thing where I can type "it works i" and hit Tab and get "it works incredibly well"

Like why is that not a Chrome feature? Or Docs? Why just GMail... Google pls make it happen.

When you were caught with your chastity cage at a nude beach, you argued that it wasn't clothing, it was basically part of your genitals and so you were fully exposed, still following the rules.

The guard seemed to believe you, but superglued the lock shut just in case anyway.

andOlga, to random

for some weird reason mastodon decided to re-enable "trends" for me today
no, shoo, go away

andOlga, to random

ya know I've been thinking
"media" is things like books, movies, shows, games etc
So then "social media" is like a weird cannibalistic version of that, serving people up to you for your entertainment

MindPersephone, to random

Having a party where everyone is gagged. The type of gag is up to each guest. Some nice music for people to dance with, some sofas to sit and relax. Everyone communicating in a group chat on their phones. No one loud voice dominating the conversation.

andOlga,

@MindPersephone honestly gags should just be as mandatory in public as masks are (ideally the two would be combined)

Voice-based communication is so fucking last century jfc it's time to move on
