On my first job, I was given a PC that had dBase II, dBase III. Reflex, and Paradox installed… and all they used was Lotus 1-2-3.

Do folks buy the new iPhone because it’s made of titanium or are they on the upgrade every year train?

I suppose folks may buy it because of titanium? I’d be very tempted to buy a new one if I could get an aluminum one. 🤔

I still love the look of all the little scratches I have on my iPhone 7. That’s also the last phone I had that wasn’t in a case.

@grork My experience has been quite different. I’m still using an iPhone 11 and it’s been wonderful. The battery is getting long in the tooth but it’s still a great device.

@mathowie @ashur Heh, do you remember weblogs.com ping? It’s just like the thing you want Matt. I even wrote some C++ code way back to ping it after I did a blog post. I built it a number of years back and it still worked then.

RSS + ping + social sites listening for those pings could be another great way to update without the need for API’s.

The holidays always put us in the mood to enjoy a game with friends, which recently got us reminiscing about the work we did back in the day to bring the Coding Monkeys’ version of Carcassonne to iOS. From the menus to the gameboard we had a blast creating an immersive feel for the game. Sadly, their version isn’t available any more, but you can see some of the artwork below.

If his orangeness is re-elected POTUS how long before the country plunges into open civil war?

What other remedy do you have to an authoritarian who will destroy our democracy, crap all over the Constitution, and change the law to allow for unlimited terms. He’ll leave the office when he dies and hand it over to one of his equally horrible spawn.

@sergpryimachuk That’s a great question, Serhii. Our checks and balances almost failed us and he’s making moves to dismantle them.

He’s facing 91 counts of various crimes but because our system is so slow and methodical he may become President before he’s convicted of any of those crimes. Many are federal crimes which he can make go away as President.

The corruption of the American political system is becoming more and more obvious by the day.

@sergpryimachuk I’m a liberal Democrat if that tells you anything. We need to continue to help Ukraine and the world (when countries want/need it.) I do not want an isolated America.

I’m for universal single-payer healthcare and free university (state universities.) Equity for all, abortion is healthcare for women, gay and trans rights are human rights.

Time Machine just refuses to back up now. Seems Time Machine and iCloud Drive are no longer compatible in Sonoma? Hundreds of reports of the same error. The solution appears to be to disable iCloud. WTF? macOS is such a clusterf*ck nowadays.

@lapcatsoftware @bigzaphod @davewoodx Xcode went all funky on me a couple days back and I finally decided to restart my machine because restarting Xcode didn’t fix it. Restarting the computer did. 😔
