I ran into issues this morning trying to open a Photoshop file for the new project I'm starting. I think the designer used a newer version than I have installed. But I can't install the newer version of Photoshop because I'm still running macOS Catalina. 🙈

So I'll be spending the rest of the day updating my work laptop to Big Sur and hoping my dev environment doesn't blow up. 🤞

I can't update to anything newer than Big Sur because my laptop is the "Late 2013" hardware. 😩

Wish me luck. 🤪

I haven't updated to Big Sur before now because I didn't want to blow up my dev environment and have to spend days getting everything back to working conditions. So this situation is my own fault.

Maybe I should just blow everything up so they need to buy me a new laptop. 😁

My soul is so happy & content right now. So is my stomach. 😊

I made brisket in my crockpot for supper tonight. It turned out so dang good. I also made mac & cheese using smoked gouda & parmesan. 😍 I rounded out the meal with potato salad that I had made yesterday. The only thing missing was cornbread.

The best part is that I didn't have to share ANY of it since I live alone. 🤪 And I have leftovers.

The lighting in my kitchen sucks for food pics, but that doesn't stop me from posting them. 😁

So this is old age? 😩

I had a moment of panic at the ATM this morning. I totally blanked on my PIN number ... even though I had just used my debit card at the grocery store less than 10 min before I got to the ATM. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Maybe I'll just call it a "blonde moment" instead of old age. 🤪

Do I know anyone familiar w/ the UPS Rating API?

I'm FINALLY switching a client over from the old API to the new OAuth API. 🙈 I've been putting it off because of other projects. But w/ the deadline of June 3rd looming, I can't put it off any longer.

I have a proof of concept working to get rate quotes. However, the value returned by the new API is different than the value returned by the old API for same pkg info. And the CIE URL returns a different value than the production URL.

Help?!

I went to the races at our local dirt track with a friend & her daughter tonight. After the races, we headed north of town to search for the aurora. We found a spot, and I actually got some good pics on my phone (Pixel 6) using the "Night Sight" mode. I snapped about 50 pics, but here are a few of my favorites.

We have a company meeting on AI in about 10 minutes. This should be interesting. 🙄 I hope they don't ask me for my opinion because they probably won't like anything I have to say. 🙊

I finally decided to be an adult & call the shop to get my car in to hopefully fix it. I should have done it last fall, but I decided I wanted to buy a new car this spring.

I can afford a new car, but it would mean that I wouldn't be able to put as much money into savings as I am now. And I like making that number bigger. I've got stuff around the house to fix too.

So I decided this past weekend to see what it'll cost to fix it. Hopefully it won't be too expensive to fix. 🤞

Adulting sucks!

@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

I just dropped my car off at the shop and walked home. It isn't the shop I wanted to take it to, but it's the closest ... a 10 min walk. Hopefully they can fix it today or at least let me have it back over the weekend so I can run errands. 🤞

I met w/ the financial advisor for my retirement fund just before lunch [via video]. I don't know if how I've been feeling since that meeting is because I always get confused by the same damn financial/investment terms OR if it's because I interacted with another human. 😖 😩

I bought an indoor/outdoor weather station this morning. I'm having issues finding somewhere to put it to get an accurate temperature reading. I have it on my fence, facing north so it's shaded. But I think the sun reflecting off of the garage is causing problems. I doubt my yard is 20° warmer than the official reading at the airport. 😖

hightechredneck,
@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

It was bothering me too much, so I broke out my tape measure. I found a website that said that the temp sensor should be at least 10 ft from all buildings/fences and 4-6 ft from the ground. I'm just going to let it sit for the rest of the weekend to see if things level off. If not, I may have to move to a new house ... or just return the weather station. 🤪

hightechredneck,
@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

The weather station seemed pretty close to accurate overnight ... after I moved the sensor for the 5th time. 🙈

I'm starting to wonder if the fact that my neighbor's yard [to the south] is all concrete [no grass] is making the temp higher. 🤔 Of course, living in a row of townhouses where all the buildings are close together doesn't help.

Oh well. My weather geek side is still happy to have a weather station after all these years. 🤓

Since I'm in a band of only 62% coverage and because it's cloudy here, I'm watching the eclipse on weather satellite. 🛰

When I first came across Laravel ... I think it was around version 5.3 or 5.4, I absolutely loved it. I even created a CMS w/ the framework [at work].

Now I'm feeling more apathetic. I don't even read the Laravel-centric newsletters that I'm subscribed to anymore. I don't know if it's because I just want to use html, css, & jQuery instead of all the front end stuff that Laravel now seems to shove in your face OR if my current job has just completely broken me.

Yes. That was me shoveling my driveway in my house slippers. 🙈🤪

(I had only planned to check on what things looked like. There wasn't much snow out there since I shoveled yesterday morning ... just a bit up by my garage door. But I had to shovel it before coming back inside so my brain wouldn't obsess over it.)

As I'm clocking out of work for lunch, my boss asks me on chat if I have time for a quick meeting after lunch. I asked what it was about and he said it was a "quick company update".

If they just gave me a company iPhone this morning, they aren't going to fire me ... are they? 😳

@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

I had to go into the office this morning to pick up an iPhone. My boss wants me to have one for testing/troubleshooting purposes.

I've always had an Android phone personally. I did have an iPod Touch way back in the day, but this is my first experience with an iPhone.

Maybe I need to spend more than 30 min with the iPhone, but I don't like it. Thank goodness I only need to use it if I need to test something specifically on an iPhone. (I've used BrowserStack for testing in the past.)

My state income tax refund showed up in my bank account today. My federal income tax refund showed up on Monday. They totaled $843.

Should I be a responsible adult and transfer that money into my savings accounts or should I buy (or do) something frivolous with it?

But do I even remember how to be frivolous any more?

Anyone who has dealt w/ burnout & depressive feelings ... what worked for you to get back on track?

I can't continue down the path that I am currently on. I have been unhappy at work for way too long now. I know I should have left years ago, but I've been at a point where I don't feel like I am smart enough to work anywhere else ... thanks to imposter syndrome on top.

I know there is no one-size-fits-all fix. I just don't know where to start ... how to get myself to realize I deserve more.

The one time that I post something that I'm really hoping gets some sort of engagement and didn't. Maybe it's just time for me to leave the internet. Go find an isolated island somewhere. Just disappear. 😶‍🌫️

I finally sat down & filed my income taxes just now. I used H&R Block online. I've been using it since at least 2011, so might as well keep using it.

My taxes are simple. The only things I have to be concerned w/ other than my W2 are the interest for 2 savings accounts & my mortgage. That means I can e-file for free. But damn do they beg & nag & try to get you to "upgrade" to a paid service. It's disgusting.

hightechredneck,
@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey I wanted to e-file both federal & state and get my refunds directly deposited, that's why I filed online.

I'm making some changes to an old project. It uses Bundler & Compass to compile the SCSS files. I was getting an error about the "ffi" gem failing to be built.

I found a fix that involved defining PKG_CONFIG_PATH in my .bash_profile file. This fixed the issue in the MacOS Terminal, however when I tried to compile things in the terminal within PhpStorm, it brought the error back.

Does the terminal in PhpStorm not look at the .bash_profile file or am I missing a setting somewhere?

hightechredneck,
@hightechredneck@phpc.social avatar

@willpower232 I did restart PhpStorm but not my laptop. I was wondering if I might need to do that. I also ran across something about copying the .bash_profile file to a .profile file. Maybe I'll do that today. I haven't restarted my work laptop in a while anyway. 🙈
