I have this older guy following me around at the park. Completely uninvited, he changes his walking direction to follow me around and slows me down and keeps me from my pace and podcasts. I have no interest to talking to him about himself for an hour.

Due to the layout of the park I cannot always avoid him. Today I told him directly I was late for work and couldn't talk. I picked up my pace and he CHASED ME. I'm so tired of this and would like to avoid changing my walking time. What the hell?

What is the point of sneaker models if each year they change so drastically??

Back to researching.

🚫 ASICS Gel Kayano 30 (were perfect until this recent model)

🚫 Hoka Bondi 8 (too bulky, sense of instability)

🚫 Brooks Glycerin 20 (toe box holes at about 90 miles)

🚫 Nike (sizing issue)

Something that helps underpronating.

Listed a couch for free on Nextdoor. The real cost is paid by me responding to endless iS tHiS sTiLL aVaiLaBLe emails that are a deliberate design feature.

There’s no efficient path forward here. And if it wasn’t available why would I keep the post up? For more of these fun interactions?🙃

I'm considering putting a talk proposal together around communities. I haven't seen a lot of these out there and truly believe they are the future in terms of an organic alternative to traditional marketing efforts, general networking that is actually tolerable and sincere, and replacing that water cooler vibe so many of us don't have access to anymore. They are essential professionally and personally, yet there are not a lot of resources around getting started and enduring.

My very rough outline so far involves mapping out intentions, leaving nothing to "just happen" (it won't), setting the tone, successful welcome/onboarding, writing codes of conduct, designing for communities, getting help, and how to be a good member. I realize I have a long way to go, but I'm curious what I'm missing so far from your perspective.

@CodenameTim So this would be a big high-level section that would include things like getting the right tone in (consistent) content and messaging, crafting features, mapping out the overall experience of navigating the community as a member, visual design and fun easter eggs (mascots!). It can be fairly huge and I'd have to trim it down 😅
