I'm trying to build a database for my Hard Rock Café t-shirt collection and use and to find the next one to buy/visit.

It turns out the API returns 50 locations but not Amsterdam. But if I search specifically for the "Hard Rock Café Amsterdam", it's there https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/497179291

Limit is set to 1000 results.

Does anyone know why?

@ascherbaum <https://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search?q=Hard> Rock Café&limit=1000&format=json (url encoded + custom user agent)

@ascherbaum The mailing lists seem to be quiet. I've created a topic on the OSM forums instead https://community.openstreetmap.org/t/incomplete-search-on-nominatim-api/113225 🤞

@ascherbaum The limit cannot be more than 40 and, indeed, the Overpass API should be used instead. Time to learn a new query language I guess.

@ascherbaum Nice, I have now 125 results 😎

@ascherbaum 22 (only 😭)

@ascherbaum OK, the data wasn't good enough to me. So I went yolo and parsed the website directly. Look at this handsome oneliner 😎

After many years of daily use of my smartphone, I still make a lot of typos which is very annoying. Generations have their tool of choice. Mine is not the phone.

@jriou@hachyderm.io avatar

@ascherbaum Totally agree. I do the same. I prefer to work on a computer. One time, I was on a plane to San Francisco when I saw a woman working on her phone before departure. Spreadsheets, e-mails, calendar, web browsing, calling. It looked so easy. I was shocked.

Once again, the delivery guy rang our bell but immediately ran out like an escape game. When I opened the door, nobody was here, not even the car. This must be Colis Privé. So annoying.

@ascherbaum I have the ultimate weapon: claim or 0 star review 😬

@ascherbaum There's no door on the porch that can be closed, and the road is a pretty big one crossing the French border. If I stop people and cars, I shut down Europe 😂

The problem with taking vacations is that my brain can't really disconnect. I have more ideas than before, with no time to implement them.

@ascherbaum We did tourism every single day for 1 week and a half, going from cities to cities, making sure kids were entertained. But now that I'm home, I have shower thoughts all the time.

Segfault when running the apt module to remove wifi and Bluetooth related packages on my raspberry pi. But no problem using the equivalent apt commands. That's weird.

Anyway, this raspberry pi ("pilote") needs to be upgraded (Debian 10 to 12). A perfect time to install it from scratch and use Ansible.

As promised in my talk at , I've done a big refacto of this repository to publish it on github. Soon™ 🤞🏻

@ascherbaum For those who don't have time to read all the threads on the hackers mailing list, a summary of one feature as an example is interesting. I liked how a simple patch, in appearance, can lead to a long discussion with interesting arguments. I don't know what's the intent of LWM specifically but I liked the article so the share.

Tuesday marked the end of a professional marathon where I have created 4 different talks for 5 different conferences, in Europe and USA, in parallel to my full time job, in 3 months. I even took one week off to build the slides of my personal talk (the 4th one).

My body said stop. I had a small cold, nothing to worry about (not covid, not flu), that took me down for two days. I was literally stuck in my bed, having a hard time.

jriou,
@jriou@hachyderm.io avatar

@ascherbaum Yes. My family doesn't like the USA that much to come with me. We have a break planned for May and July. Those will be real holidays.

jriou,
@jriou@hachyderm.io avatar

@ascherbaum Actually, I did spend an extra day but it didn't change much. One day visiting, one day to the airport. I think it wasn't only this travel but the accumulation of the previous months. When I hit home, I was like it's now (finally) over.

edit: I didn't go to the conference on Sunday 🤫

@ascherbaum If there is a large time zone difference (EU/US) and the trip is less than a week, I can't adapt myself to the difference. I always wake up in the middle of the night even if I stay awake until 11 pm. This time, I managed to sleep until 5 am every day, not more. On the bright side, when I'm back home, I adapt in no time. So one day before wouldn't have helped me in that case. Luckily for me, my talks were scheduled on the 2nd and 3rd day. Now that I have a family, every day counts.

@ascherbaum Unfortunately no. I've already walked from Santa Monica to Venice and the reverse earlier that day. I couldn't walk over there otherwise my feet would have burned so I took the bus to the observatory. It's better than nothing. The view with the sunset was great!
