jwaters42,

I have one. I like it, I find it much more comfortable than joycons in handheld mode, and the buttons are more like a pro controller (compared with joycons and grips like the Satisfye). It feels more stable than the Hori Split Pad since it goes beneath and behind the screen, but it does add a bit more bulk. My only complaints are that the LED is on by default (you can turn it off but will turn back on after waking from sleep), and the release button can be a bit hard to slide.

Pretty critical PR for rust-msi is getting held up because the maintainer understands the intent but not why this works (github.com)

Not to throw shade, just wishing that somebody here can understand. Whenever an input is reasonably long, an analyzing function will crash, and this PR aims to fix that with a mechanism that contradicts the maintainer's understanding while a similar C implementation does not need this fix. Clearly, the maintainer has not heard a...

jwaters42,

After the xz debacle, I think we should resist the temptation to rush maintainers into accepting code that they don’t fully understand.

jwaters42,

Eh, I still think it’s worth calling out sloppy practices like this. At a minimum, drawing attention to it is a way to socialize good practices for others and to spark discussions (like this one!) Nobody is saying this person shouldn’t be putting code out there, they’re just pointing out some pretty gnarly code hygiene. One could argue this is actually one of the main strengths of open source development! Consider the parallel of somebody giving away free food- if they are using unsafe practices like not keeping things at proper temperatures or picking their nose while handling food, there’s nothing wrong with critiquing them, even if their intentions are good.

Anyone have a lead on life insurance that doesn't disappear in the event of suicide? I've been out of work for months, and while we still have a pretty decent nest egg, I'd like to have all of my options on the table to support my family.

jwaters42,

Two things, internet stranger. One is some advice, the other is an answer to your question. I hope you take the advice.

  1. Things might be rough now, but suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. You are more valuable to your family than the money would be, and the loss of you will be more devastating in the long term than the struggle to get by. I encourage you to discuss these thoughts with a professional if it’s within your means, or a trusted loved one if it’s not. I’m not sure of the reasons behind your difficulty finding work, but in many parts of the world, including the US, you can qualify for disability payments for mental illness if that is a contributing factor.
  2. It’s not entirely true that policies don’t pay out in the event of suicide. While there are typically clauses in most policies that will not pay out in the event of a suicide in the first year or two after initiating the policy (mainly to discourage what you are proposing), after that period the cause of death is generally irrelevant.
