lloram239,

Just lovely how everybody is forgetting that Hamas is responsible for this all. They can end it any time they want, release the hostages and surrender, but they chose not to.

lloram239,

It is possible to wage war against Hamas and NOT unarmed civilian palestinians.

And how exactly is that supposed to work?

lloram239,

Be methodical and targeted.

Which is exactly what they are already doing.

lloram239, (edited )

Hamas has launched in the realm of 7000 rockets at Israel civilians since October 7. But hey, keep blaming it all on Israel. Lets make antisemitism cool again, you are doing your part already.

And as always: Propose an alternative to how Israel should defend itself instead. Still haven’t heard anybody give one and it has been weeks.

lloram239,

Commiting genocide against a civilian population is not self defense.

For one, they don’t.

And as always: Propose an alternative to how Israel should defend itself instead. Still haven’t heard anybody give one and it has been weeks.

But keep listening to that Hamas propaganda it’s totally not rotting your brain away.

lloram239,

Everybody wanted those social networks turned into save spaces and companies complied. So don’t come complaining that you can’t post war footage.

Each image in the training set contributes only about a single byte to the AI model. Meaning there are no “source” images in any meaningful way.

Edit: A minute of fiddling with DALLE-3 I got this (and a dozen similar ones). Did I stole from OP? Did we steal from the same source? Or is a prompt like:

“cool sky wizard with a long lush white beard with sunglasses and a Gandalf hat shooting an ak-47 in front of a galaxy cloud scifi backdrop, fog, clouds, magical, stylized digital painting, heroic posing, god rays, forshortening, roto zoom, wind blowing through his hair, brass flying out of the gun”

Simply enough to describe this kind of image reasonably closely?

lloram239,

When artists can’t even figure out what was stolen they really have no leg to stand on. Complete cluelessness of how any of this works doesn’t help either.

And beside these kinds of arguments are just complete hypocrite bullshit to begin with. Human artists use references all the time. If the law decides that that’s illegal, they’ll be in even deeper trouble than they already are.

Also the only one that would profit from these lawsuits would be Adobe, Shutterstock and all the other mega-corp content hoarders out there. You’ll be stuck with AI image generation all the same, but instead of it being free and available to everybody, you’d be paying a hefty subscription fee to them.

Either way, AI image generation is the way forward. The genie is out of the bottle. Get used to it

lloram239,

As long as something has a clear and unique name, AI can do a pretty good job. When something doesn’t have a 1:1 name->shape association it can however still get pretty bonkers, e.g. something generic like “PC joystick” always ends up like this, which is a wild mix of gear shifters, gamepads, arcade sticks, HOTAS and flight sticks.

This new data poisoning tool lets artists fight back against generative AI (www.technologyreview.com)

A new tool lets artists add invisible changes to the pixels in their art before they upload it online so that if it’s scraped into an AI training set, it can cause the resulting model to break in chaotic and unpredictable ways....

lloram239,

“New snake oil to give artists a false sense of security” - The last of these tools I tried had absolutely zero effect on the AI, which is not exactly surprising given that there are hundreds of different ways to make use of image data as well as lots of completely different models. You’ll never cover that all with some pixel twisting.

lloram239,

That’s not quite how it works. The pixels are just the first layer. Those get broken down into edges. The edges get broken down into shape. The shapes get broken down into features like eyes, noses, etc. Those get broken down into faces. And so on. It’s hierarchical feature detection. Which also happens to be what the human brain does.

The actual “drawing” the AI does is quite a bit different however. The diffusion works by starting with random noise and then gradually denoising it until an image emerges. While humans can approach painting that way, it’s rather rarely done so.

lloram239,

It’s definitely suspicious that there are no munitions remnants available for analysis.

No munitions. No 500 dead. No destroyed hospital. No bomb crater. But Hamas said it, so it must be right. This whole thing has been an absolute clown show of incompetence from the worlds press.

lloram239,

They could at least check if the hospital is still standing before claiming that Israel destroyed it. When your only source is Hamas, don’t treat it as truth.

lloram239,

lloram239,

Gibt’s für XMPP eigentlich noch vernünftige public Server? www.jabber.org hat sich zu Jahresanfang zerlegt und war wegen zuviel Spam auch davor nicht mehr benutzbar.

lloram239,

Pocket is Mozilla’s bookmark/sync pay-cloud-service. Comes with Firefox by default and can’t be easily removed. From a company that claims to care about privacy I would expect a self-hosted local-first approach for such problems, not a cloud service.

lloram239,

Brave. It ain’t perfect, but I actually like that it comes with Adblock, IPFS and Tor support out of the box. Gives you a fully functioning browser out of the box without having to mess with tons of plugins.

If you want something more minimalist, Librewolf might be worth a look.

lloram239,

that was already mitigated and addressed

Yeah, after a year. Sorry, but I don’t take lightly to companies that are stealing screenshot of my browser and than act like it’s no big deal.

without any hint of what they would be.

Have you not been paying attention over the last few years? Mozilla’s numerous missteps ain’t exactly a secret. Here is a little list:

lloram239,

It’s not the criticism of Israel government that makes this antisemitism, but the utter lack of criticism of Hamas. You want a ceasefire? Start with demanding the release of the hostages and demand that Hamas stops shooting rockets at civilians.

lloram239,

you can put political pressure on your government to stop supporting a government killing civilians.

What do you think Hamas is? They aren’t some random small terror organisation. They are the government of Gaza. So what’s stopping Palestinians from putting pressure on them?

Hamas needs to be dealt with as a terrorist group.

And how exactly do you think that’s supposed to work? You don’t like what Israel is doing, fine, what’s your alternative?

lloram239,

Hamas is not a random group of extremist, Hamas is the government that Gazans voted into power back in 2006.

And as always: If you have a better way to handle this, let us know. Everybody keeps complaining about Israel, ignores all the war crimes Hamas committed and provides no alternatives. Time machines don’t exists, so any “but Israel in the past blabla…” is rather useless.

lloram239,

What would you do if you were the Palestinian in this question.

We are talking about a rally in London. All I expect is to see a few signs calling for the end of Hamas, an end to violence or something along the lines. All I see is “Free Palestine” signs, which is nothing more than an antisemitic dog whistle.

lloram239,

Like the 500 in the hospital attack? For which there is no evidence nor was it caused by the IDF. Also keep in mind that plenty of those killed will have been Hamas. You are blindly trusting numbers giving out by a terrorist organisation.

lloram239,

To free Palestine you have to destroy Israel, that’s their goal.

lloram239,

one is an ad hoc terrorist organisation

Hamas is the democratically elected Gaza government.
