Whats the best budget friendly way to transfer vhs tapes

Hiya, pretty much the title. I have a dozen tapes I want to backup before age takes its toll. My basic idea after watching some videos online is to buy a hardware based upscaler that can interface with my vcr then throw that signal to a video capture card and record on my computer. I’ll go with name brands to avoid problems...

quinnly,

I just want to second the GV-USB2, it’s a nifty little device. I’ve used it to back up multiple home videos from VHS. The only thing is (at least this was the case when I bought my GV-USB2) all the instructions to activate it are in Chinese, you have to find a tutorial online if you can’t read Chinese. But there’s plenty of resources for you to take advantage of. Once you have it set up it’s essentially plug and play.

quinnly,

The way I make my oatmeal, it could be considered a dairy product

quinnly,

That’s…odd.

But then again smart phones weren’t a thing when I was in school so most of this kinda stuff seems odd to me. I’m with the other guy, I’m glad I never had to deal with any nonsense resembling this.

quinnly,

That’s a funny way of spelling Daggerfall

quinnly,

As someone who is the stupid party stoner friend to a big friend group of (mostly) tech bros, this list is pretty hilarious to read from the other side.

Also fuck you for saying I’m gonna die young.

quinnly,

My comment was supposed to be kind of wink wink tongue in cheek in tone, I’m sure that didn’t come across.

I’m sorry for poking at fresh wounds. I lost my best friend too, many years ago. He was only 21, but there’s no such thing as “old enough” because life is too short. And there’s not enough time in this life to truly move on from something like that. There’s nothing else I can say, I just hope you’re doing well bud

quinnly,

The Tetris Effect by Dan Ackerman is a lot of fun, a pretty breezy read, and is fairly unbelievable for how true the story is. It involves (in varying amounts) programming, science, and DIY, mostly from an early-80s perspective (since a lot of it is about the development of the game), plus some corporate espionage and Soviet meddling.

quinnly,

Also has one of the better TV adaptations

quinnly,

Oh yeah, books first then the Netflix series afterwards. I think the show does a lot to expand the world of the books while not compromising its overall story and message. But you gotta read the books first.

quinnly,

The casting for the movie was incredible, they really set themselves up for a great trilogy and it’s a shame there was only one movie. The show is a magnificent achievement in tone and design but some of the casting choices left a bit to be desired. Off the top of my head I wasn’t too fond of Sir, Josephine, or Nero. But gotta give them some credit, Jacques and Esme in particular were perfect imo. I also loved Jerome but I have the biggest crush on Tony Hale so I’m probably coming at that one with a bias 😂

quinnly,

I agree that Meryl Streep was absolutely perfect, as she always is. I was speaking on the casting for the TV show. I didn’t hate her or anything I just thought she coulda been better

quinnly,

Well sugar doesn’t inebriate you so that’s not a fair comparison at all. You’re not gonna accidentally kill someone while driving under the influence of sugar.

quinnly,

Depends on age I think. All my 40+ year old friends have large DVD collections, as well as some in their 30s. I could see people younger than 30 not giving a shit about physical media. Personally I would go physical over digital.

quinnly,

And banking. I send at least ten faxes a day.

quinnly,

That’s very true. It’s not a fair comparison. The average pig is probably quite a bit more intelligent than the average actor.

quinnly,

get the best you can afford

Ah, so the cheapest option available. Got it.

Will the world ever stop being anti-intellectual?

One of the most aggravating things to me in this world has to be the absolutely rampant anti-intellectualism that dominates so many conversations and debates, and its influence just seems to be expanding. Do you think there will ever actually be a time when this ends? I'd hope so once people become more educated and cultural...

quinnly,

That kind of thinking has no place in any modern society and neither do you

Psssssst saying stuff like that doesn’t make you sound very smart

quinnly,

I don’t give a fuck how I sound

Well you had me fooled, given that you seem to think what you’re saying is so important

Be a fucking adult

I wanna dig into this, please elaborate on your adult ideal

quinnly,

Look at how upset you are, at something that’s totally out of your control. So much anger, I could drown in it. Maybe try to focus on more positive emotions.

Die mad.

I wanna focus in on this statement. Do you say hurtful things like this because maybe deep down you’re afraid that you’ll die angry, angry at things that are completely out of your control? This is a very natural fear so don’t be afraid to admit it.

quinnly,

I replay candybox/candybox 2 at least once a year. Fantastic incremental ascii games

quinnly,

My ex told me people didn’t like me because I shared my thoughts too much, and I just got feedback from my boss about the same thing

Often times when this criticism is brought up it’s not the fact that you’re simply sharing your thoughts, but rather the thoughts themselves that you’re sharing. If your opinions are problematic then obviously people won’t want to hear them and won’t want to be around you. So if you don’t mind, could you share exactly what you said that made these people criticize you in this way?

Do you think lemmy would be as popular as reddit?

Hi, do you think lemmy would be as popular as Reddit ? I mean, many subreddits have much more posts compared to communities on lemmy… sometimes I scroll through Reddit sub top of month and see no end. At lemmy mostly I see 10 posts monthly… I do like concept of moving to lemmy, but it might make no sense if people’s are no...

quinnly,

Comments like this are exactly why people aren’t gonna wanna join Lemmy.

For reference: I’m one of the brain dead convenience seeking idiots you’re describing. Lemmy isn’t that hard to understand. What sucks about Lemmy is pretentious users like you treating it like something it isn’t when in reality it’s just another in a long list of average to middling message boards.

quinnly,

I don’t have the technical knowledge to understand lemmy’s decentralized federated nonsense and I’ve been using it just fine. You think you need to understand how something works to use it? Or do you think idiots like me are too scared to use something we don’t understand? Because I’m saying you’re wrong on both counts. And if you don’t like average idiots like me taking over your beloved platform then maybe you should just suck it up because I’m not going anywhere, and if this site continues to grow then pretty soon the average user will be a lot more like me than like you.

quinnly,

the vast VAST majority of average internet users are basically brain dead and want maximum convinence at any cost, including privacy and being treated right by the service as a user. They quite simply don’t care what happens as long as they can still get their garbage content drip fed to them without any work, learning, or inconvinece on their part.

If you don’t want to be called pretentious then maybe you shouldn’t spout pretentious nonsense like this

(I highlighted the pretentious parts)

quinnly,

And I apologize for being an asshole in response. I would say that I hadn’t had my morning coffee yet but I’ve been trying to hold myself more accountable so instead I’ll blame my overall addiction to caffeine
