I started using mastodon when musk bought twitter and kbin with all the reddit API shitshow. I like the idea of the fediverse but how does it have longevity?
The hardware is getting smaller and cheaper, it’s coming pre built with Docker and decentralized apps. It’s catching up. I see a future where you type a command and you have a running instance on your network. On a usb drive. Wherever.
I am personally leaving, friends/family also leaving. And Im blocking it on my network, and we got a "lets do it" to block it on our corporate network (1900+ employees). But everyone said "likely leaving". Kbin maybe about to get the hug of death! May launch a selfhosters one! Lets do this
Realistically how does the fediverse make money and remain sustainable? only donations?
