Yubikey 5C Nano are currently €65 at Yubico, PLUS 19% VAT (for me) and plus €10 p&h, plus VAT.

At BerryBase, the same is €67.90 incl. VAT, and if you add another (or €12 for something else), shipping is included.

I'm considering getting a pair for each nephew/niece; I feel I should teach them how to protect data.

Since all the search engines have gone to shit, I'll resort to the old-fashioned way of finding information: Asking people.

So, what's the easiest, most foolproof way to do encrypted offsite on ?

I have a few TB at Hetzner, and a few personal laptops that need automated backups.

The whole thing needs to be fairly foolproof to run (because at least one kid is going abroad for a few months with their laptop), and foolproof to set up up (because it's me setting it up)

@slothrop we've had very good experience with Borg Backup to Hetzner over SSH. Borg is very easy to get started with, can do pruning (as Restic can, but I prefer the former), and is pretty rock solid.

And the most important: backups are encrypted at rest.

@antondollmaier iirc, an AR costs roughly $1000; no idea how much handguns are: 1/2 that maybe.

Anyhow: ALOT of money.

jpmens,
@jpmens@mastodon.social avatar

@slothrop

TL;DR du kannst kein Gleichgewicht halten beim Radfahren? Ist aber blöd oder?

Menschlich, vermute ich.

Sometimes I check a program's man page to see if there's support for doing X, and then I stumble across being able to do Y, something I've wanted for ages.

Today, in `man ag':

ag --pager 'less -R' ...

which keeps coloring, whereas

ag ... | less

obviously doesn't.

@asmodai indeed, but I'm queezy with $PAGER contrary to $EDITOR, but can't rightly say why. :)

Kudos to a piece of software which, over the course of the many years I've been using it, has kept a completely consistent user interface and experience without mucking with colors, new forms of display, changed layouts, and whatnot.

I also wish to favorably mention the code appears to require very few updates and, if they are performed, it has been an absolute transparent experience!
