@ai6yr Honestly, one minor (according to the guy) infestation of bed bugs, and how even that was a massive effort to get rid of, has made me hyper vigilant about absolutely anything entering the house. I don't think curb chair would get a second glance, unfortunately.
@BakerRL75@ai6yr Also, I tend to be very suspicious of anything that can have bedbugs because that's often a reason stuff that looks good gets thrown out in the first place.
Always check anything for signs of them (also for termites, if it's wooden)
People often seem to think that dumpster diving is so much better in the winter, because the cold keeps the food fresh. The truth is that a lot of fruit and veggies actually gets damaged by the frost, and that there's so much getting thrown away that even in the heat of the summer the food you find is mostly fresh, just thrown out right before you go pick it up, anyway.
Thank you America, for being so obsessed with pre-packed quantities of produce and so intolerant of the slightest blemish, that you would throw out all of these perfect nectarines (plus that one with the bruise) for me to take home.
Does anybody know a place that sells 12V/2A DC converters with grounded connectors?
I have plenty of ungrounded (2-plug) ones salvaged from my #dumpsterdiving days, but they interfere with the Audio recording by adding static (similar to many laptops when plugged in).
I'm looking for something like the one in the picture, but this specific one is 6A and I'm afraid it might be too much current for it...
Preferably one that sells in the european market? :D
@kzimmermann depending on where you are the regulations are different. The technical parameters are a different animal again.
In 240V mainland Europe your wall power outlet is rated at 10A continuous and 16A short time. The power strip is most likely rated at 10A continuous if it carries a legit CE label.
So the sustained input current of all the devices on that strip must be <= 10A. Inrush current can be more for a short time.
Just add up the input currents stated on all your devices.
@kzimmermann@fedops The adapter will draw from the outlet only what the device behind it needs, plus something for itself, based on how much it's delivering. If the adapter has an 80% efficiency, even if it's rated for 6 amps, plugging a 2A device on it will cause it to draw about 2.5A from the outlet.

LOL, someone has a full hydroponics grow setup in a trash bin around here... 2 dozen 4x4 trays, aeroponic cloning trays, lights, pumps, AC... the whole nine yards. (I have no space, and don't need all that for tomatoes and peppers 🤷 ) I suspect someone had a wee bit of a 420 growing operation down the street. #dumpsterdiving
I love libraries, and I love rescuing things from the trash so they become a resource, not a problem.
So I really love this story about people working on a landfill creating a library from the books they find there! Fantastic stuff – all landfills should do this!
