Seems like a pretty common sense list tbh.

it's always silly to dismiss Warren

SweetPotatoBestPotato, in What solid financial advice can you not bring yourself to follow?

Same with the job hopping, but mostly because I'm in tech, hate interview bullshit and the market sucks right now, so no reason to risk it. Another one that I struggle with is not ordering food / takeout. I'm better at it but cooking at home suuuuucks on weekdays when you're tired. It also sucks on weekends actually lol

I'm not anal about following my budget. I keep a very loose, general awareness of it, but I'm not tracking receipts and payments every day.

SweetPotatoBestPotato,

I used to track everything with YNAB which got me to automatically be good at mentally budgeting and keeping my spending in check. I still use it but don't keep track of it daily, more like every couple of weeks or so. It really shouldn't be used like that so I'm considering unsubscribing.

Yeah, if you spend any money on having fun, it's your own fault that you're poor. Right. Of course. Same as it ever was.

Short- get my emergency fund back to to where it was before buying this house (~40k).

Medium- put a few thousand bucks (or maybe whole end of year bonus) towards mortgage principle since my rate is 5.65%

Long- max 401k contributions on top of IRA yearly. Buy into ownership at my company (probably me and one other guy, the owner is in his 60s and eyeing retirement)

Ni,

House buying and house renno also wiped out my emergency fund and that is also our plan to pay off as much as poss on the mortgage especially with these rates. Unfortunately have to remortgage in August.

Long term plans sound really interesting and a great opportunity!

QingQangQong, in What are your financial goals? (Short, mid and long term)

Short - Not sure, switching jobs and got a pay bump so probably max out my 401k and maybe open up an IRA.

Mid - Save up a downpayment for a bigger house. Once we have a kid this house is going to feel very cramped.

Long - Retire before 50. Maybe earlier because the concept of CoastFIRE fascinates me.

Great plans! We were also considering moving in the mid term but finding it difficult to find a place we want to move to. Also the housing market here in the UK is just ridiculously high.

I've always been fascinated with fire but don't think it's realistic on our current salaries. But I enjoy reading about people who are working towards it, and retiring before 50 would be a great feat!

pilvlp, in What are your financial goals? (Short, mid and long term)

Short - Close and move into our home
Mid - Either pay down mortgage at a faster rate, invest that money instead, or a combination of both.
Long - Probably the same as above. Once the house is paid off, invest heavily. Eventually I want to add additional revenue steams.

Nice plans! Good luck with closing and moving into your home.

Its good to see other people's long term plans as I realised, while making this, I didn't really have any other than to vaguely make ourselves more secure and grow wealth as much as poss. What are you plans for the additional revenue streams?

pilvlp,

I'd like to own or co-own a business. It's hard because my career is extremely lucrative.

Maybe work towards some kind of fire situation and then you can work towards your business while still having the financial security?

Really looking forward to seeing all these populated with great content and information. PersonalFinance and FinancialIndependence were definitely some of my biggest subreddits.

I was going to post, but happy enough to be the 10th subscriber. PF was definitely one of my most viewed subs.
