One idea comes to my mind pretty quick. If you’re not using qwerty or have an unusual layout, keybinds for certain apps turns into a sudden project. It would definitely affect gamers who frequently switch games and rely heavily on default keybinds and standard keyboard layouts. Just switching to a basic qwerty layout for gaming would simplify that quite a lot
The comments here had me expecting a Save Toby type of thing. Look it up! It was both funny and quite messed up! Much worse than this.
Personally, I’m seeing this a little differently. Small animal farms don’t exactly earn a lot of money. If people are only willing to pay for meat, then those animals really have to be slaughtered and sold. There’s no financially viable alternative. Especially given that it costs real money to care for a single large animal like a cow or horse. I can confidently say that $50 per month is quite low for the cost of a single cow.
Don’t eat meat! That’s the solution, right? If the world stops eating meat, then those farm raised animals won’t be slaughtered for food. Great! But then those same farms still need to produce food and won’t carry live stock. Which means that those animals simply wouldn’t exist going forward. Lots more plants and fast fewer animals. There are other reasons why that’s probably a good thing but it’s a tangent.
If you want these animals to be farm raised and simply live a long, happy life, then paying a farm to keep them seems like a good option to me.
I don’t think this satisfies your use cases perfectly but an interesting solution for sure. I prefer note taking in vscode using the patricklee.vsnotes extension. Here’s a write up on it at c/vscode. You can commit your note changes to a git repo on github or other elsewhere, giving you access from many different places.
The thing I like most about the fediverse, unlike reddit, is that people are genuinely posting things they care about or like, rather than posting to be a karma whore. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve posted in reddit and it instantly gets stolen and used in another sub simply to get easy karma. It’s refreshing to not...
Agreed. Reddit has loads of problems sand bad motivations. But I think people are trying to turn lemmy into reddit 2.0 because they lost the actual reddit. Sure, many people wanted less nose and higher quality… But that’s probably not true for most people that signed up over the last month+. They just wanted a reddit alternative.
I expect that much of the reddit obsession will dissipate as those users settle in and forget about reddit.
No but I have an indirect answer (a method?) for you. There are many open source projects that do this type of work. For example, newsblur. Maybe you can find a few of these projects in the language you want to use and see how they’re handling it. I would expect the to be done common libraries used between them.
For the last few months our team has been working on an entirely automated AI-powered news site. I am excited to announce that v1.0 is finally being released. This version includes full coverage with every article generated from 2 left leaning, 2 right leaning, and 2 neutral sources. We have also added an anonymous commenting system for people to share their opinions freely. Our servers are now running 24/7 so that new articles appear as they happen! Let me know what you guys think, as well as any comments/concerns/questions you have!
Speaking as a US citizen, I really don’t think this is hypocritical at all. The US is 100% supporting Ukraine for its own self interest. Sure, it helps Ukraine fend off an invading country. But that’s not our reason. Strategically, US support for Ukraine hurts Russia. I don’t think anyone is really hiding from this either.
Also, that bit about the US escalating things is ridiculous.
Here’s an upcoming feature for those wanting to use multiple profiles in VSCode but don’t enjoying micro managing settings across many different profiles. And good news: This feature is currently being developed!...
I know a lot of lurkers like me out there are browsing, but there’s quite a bit of engagement capitol on the federated instances. If you find an interesting topic and the right community, you get a lot of feedback. There’s not much hate being thrown out there either.
For VS Code users, there’s also the terrastruct.d2 extension that provides language support for .d2 files. It even let’s you use the preview feature to watch live changes!
If anyone is interested, it would be great to have a write up on d2 and the extension over at !vscode

So Markdown Mermaid looks awesome. How do you like it? Easy to setup and use?
I’ve been using Terrastruct.d2 for this. But it requires having d2 installed locally. Otherwise, it’s nice enough. Not good enough for me to use frequently or promote.
I can't blame reddit admins on this one. I support the protest and users shifting to Lemmy. But the sudden NSFW content is clearly going to get reddit to take action. Just the obvious response in my opinion. Just like killing third party apps causes a user base to leave. 🤷♂
