OpenSCAD, to 3DPrinting

This years will start in a couple of hours. For a little bit of daily fun, head over to https://openscad.org/advent-calendar-2023/ where a new door will open at midnight UTC over the next 24 days.

A number of the designs have 3MF files for attached. If you find the time to print and post about those, please tag with .

Day 15 of , part 5 of 6 of the printable lantern.

This is the thin edge panel going between the image panels, so 4 of them are needed.

Day 16 of , a Worley noise generator.

A short overview about the algorithm can be found in the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Worley_noise

Day 17 of , an animation of a beach ball dancing on huge waves.

Day 18 of , the 6th and final part of the printable lantern.

With all the pieces printed, it's assembly time to get the result shown in the video. This is using a LED flame lamp to give some nice effect.

This is the christmas themed version from the 3MF files, the calender also has 4 more themes: winter, flower, disco and cartoon. Or you can add your own SVG files for a completely customized lantern.

Video of the lantern printed in black PLA, flickering a bit like there's a candle inside but of couse it's a LED lamp. On the left sits a glass dome with a color changing RGB LED string. On the right side the @metabene calendar shows the 50th week still.

...and because Mastodon did not like to share both image and video in a single post, here's the picture of the OpenSCAD design.

Day 20 of , an OpenSCAD interpretation of the Mad Tea Party scene of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

Day 21 of , a Snub Dodecahedron, yes, that's the official name 😀 .

It's an Archimedean solid with 92 faces 12 of which are pentagons and the other 80 are equilateral triangles.

The 3MF file in the calender is probably not working well for FDM printers, we tried and failed. But maybe someone wants to accept the challenge.
