I started the day off with a walk and a hearty breakfast. https://aussie.zone/pictrs/image/01dc1934-1a83-4610-8794-9da9e312f1af.jpeg

One load of washing has been hung. A leg of lamb has been pulled from the freezer to defrost. The sun is shining, the cat is purring on my lap, so far today is shaping up to be a very good day.

Could be worse. Our soap dispenser at work tends to clog a bit, sending ropes of white slimy goo flying in random directions, often ending up on your top (or once onto the top of the person next to me!).

I have now updated my budget ready for the new financial year. The tax cuts will help a bit, although an actual pay rise would be better.

What these type of people also happily overlook is just how much money they receive in the way of tax concessions on their Superannuation that allows them to be “self funded”. Decades of 15% tax on earnings (and a substantial proportion of contributions) and then no tax for the entirety of their retirement. Those tax benefits are worth more than the pension benefits, and if they want they can spend all that money on themselves and then get the pension as well once most of it is gone - and they get to have however much money they like locked away in their home which is barely counted for the pension assets test.

People on Facebook can be such hard work.

I posted an answer to a question in a group along the lines of “I think “A” is probably right, but if it turns out to be “B” then this will be the outcome”.

Got a reply from someone else: “wrong”.

After multiple comments to prompt him to actually state what was wrong and to provide any sort of support for his statements (the best he could do was state “it’s obvious” that demonstrably untrue fact) I have gotten to a “well we just have different views” post. I give up. Why people feel the need to correct other’s opinions and confidently state things as fact when they don’t really know what they are talking about is beyond me.

I never do well on quizes, but it looks like my 20/50 today was a comparatively good result. Yay me!

I was not feeling well yesterday so spent the day binge watching a couple of seasons of a French series, UFOs. It was ejoyable, but a bit odd. A giant mount of super-powered extraterrestial fairy floss is not a plot device you see every day.

Beef stew cooked with lots of wine for dinner tonight. I’ll do baked brussels sprouts and cauliflower in cheese sauce to go with it. I made a big batch of stew so will have 6 serves for later too.

Breakfast this morning was sourdough avocado and cheese toast, with 2 fried eggs. Plus a little bit of parsley for garnish so I could call it fancy,

does anyone know where I put the corkscrew?

RustyRaven,
@RustyRaven@aussie.zone avatar

not in any of the drawers. I checked each one about 4 times.

I have checked both the cupboard which collects random tools that should mostly be outside and the pegboard storage areas where screwdrivers are and there is no corkscrew ☹️

Handy to know about BfR. I have now created my own Reddit sub and the app is working again.

She is currently curled in her favourite hanging basket. Obviously I can’t wake her up to check but it seems highly unlikely she would have stolen the corkscrew and managed to carry it up there. She’s only little and has no teeth for gripping such things.

Cork was pushed into the bottle. Alas I have no swiss army knife. I have a suspicion I may have overzealously decluttered it thinking it was a spare.

RustyRaven,

My cutlery sits in a pot on a shelf. I did check the shelf it is on and the one above it (which houses the teapot). No corkscrew ☹️

I will be moving in with my mother and consolidating households in the near future, so at this stage I am not buying anything I can do without for a short period. So I’ll be pushing in corks for a few months then either find it in the move or just use mum’s. I’ll add it with the broken beaters to the list I need to make sure mum doesn’t declutter!

The only reasons I can come up with are if the laundry is on a different floor it might be handy to check if it has finished before you go downstairs to unload it. It might also remind you if you don’t unload it which could definitely be handy. Or it could give you a bit more control over programming if it has a decent app - it’s easier/cheaper to build in more variables into an app than it is to have hard buttons. My rice cooker has an app which gives you access to a lot more detailed programming than you can do on the panel, like setting the exact finish time for the times, adjusting default times to your preferences, programs for yoghurt etc. Plus it allows multilingual settings - the cooker has chinese on all the buttons but the app is in English.

Beef stew (with lots of wine) has been cooked and is currently in jars in the pressure canner. Seven serves, so one tonight and six for later.

I found the corkscrew! I cunningly placed it on top of my box of wine. Where I had already looked, but obviously not very well as it was just pushed to the back a bit (under a shelf, so not very visible).

Having used the first bottle of wine in the beef stew I have opened another bottle to drink, and have been able to use the un-screwed cork that I had to push into the bottle as a seal for the newly opened one, which means I have been able to use the wine stopper in the bottle of soy sauce that for some reason had a non re-sealable bottle top and has been sitting with a bit of foil squished onto it as its lid.

I made it myself 😁

I did a package at Shiraz Republic in Heathcote and made a few boxes of Shiraz.

I sort of agree, but at the same time my first experience of theatre was Cats and that is crazy.

Like the Garden of Eden? God commands you not to use Apple devices!

I will be enjoying it by mowing my grass, removing a few weeds and (if the enthusiasm levels are high enough) poisoning some other weeds.
