Why do so many people have bad takes about cars?

ageha,
@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu avatar

@sim @grillchen
food deserts only exist in cities with horrible zoning designed for cars

ageha,
@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu avatar

@sim @grillchen
in general, inaccessibility in cities comes mostly from designing around cars. being chronically ill here and not able to walk long distances or drive (pass out, so can't be behind a wheel) meant i'm trapped in a location far away from anything; just going super to get food is an ordeal exhausting for an entire day

zone instead like toukyou and you have a resutoran across the street, conbini with groceries like 2~3 blocks away, and easy access train system to take you anywhere in the city. and people can still drive if they need (though streets are kinda thin and wiggly precarious because it wasn't squared-out

for western consumption why are japanese name orders reversed but chinese names normal :acat_losingit:
i search for jp figure in original SURNAME GIVEN NAME order but then reverse it in the last minute remembering western conventions :blobcatnotlikethis:
chinese names do not have this problem, deng xiaoping doesn’t become xiaoping deng in western media…

@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu avatar

if you look academic stuff it's always normal order, but trade publishing insists on switch around

The only thing I really want from a music player is grouping by album artist

ageha,
@ageha@tomo.airen-no-jikken.icu avatar

@sun @eal
yeh, this is what that "beets" helps of. get 200G of music neatly sorted without having to do it manually

process now is like grab in flac, convert that to 500k vorbis for being weird reasons, files have metadata stripped in that step, beet recognises the tracks and albums and everything anyways, grabs metadata and coverart from musicbrainz and applies it all for you, creates neat directory substructure and puts files in

I was serious about the China thing, but it seems like everybody that comes from there says about the same thing, it seems like culture just got flattened

maybe could lend you this book. but talks brief period between normal-people-have-net-access and state censorship catches up, with a bit more sharing freedom and kinda discovering the rest of the world is making things too (see "fansubbing" above

very

there are occasional big meetings of like 300 kids at a park or community sports teams or such, but dominating experience is loneliness

for those who do it's not the same at all of being in school together

got put into (catholic) school here partway through after home stuff, and never made one friend in all the homeschool things beforehand. most time is floating on your own, with just now then floating in a big lake of vaguely familiar faces

emails seem indicate there was limiter supposed to catch and block anyone downloading 300+ pdfs. getting around that required creating new sessions, which they caught and added a limit on as well (after 4 days

understanding here was that they started the whole thing off with law enforcement. then later, seeing it was going to be bad publicity, tried to back out, but at that point government wanted to "make an example of cybercrime" kinda situation
