I keep seeing calls for missing middle housing in SFH neighborhoods but very few calls for legalizing commercial/mixed use.

Densifying residential only will be a disaster, that makes car traffic and parking worse as everyone still has to drive for all errands. Cities have to legalize all aspects of a dense neighborhood or they will fail.

@getalifemike a concern i have in common with the nimbys is more people = more traffic. Infill development that not only provides for greater mixes of uses, but transportation network development that discourages driving is unsustainable.

Some random reactions:

*Underground retail is shitty retail,
*Shitty retail is cheap-rent retail,
*There's no real model for sustainably-cheap-rent retail in new development,
*Landowners can do as they please with their property,
*Residents who fought for keeping the Underground will feel betrayed.

@eheisman i think it was sustained only because longtime residents viewed it as something of a unique amenity, that with the right mix of uses could somehow be something different and contributing. No one ever really cracked the code

There are 295 people signed up for public comment at the Cambridge City Council tonight, most of whom will be speaking on a policy order to delay the city's implementation of bike lanes.

@20002ist by the way, @crschmidt was absolutely right in flagging that the parking rezoning is a red herring. The minute any private parking pricing is publicly discussed, we'll have renewed calls for no more bike lanes @Will
