I'll support Windows on ARM if Microsoft gives it better backwards compatibility than X86-64.

If you're emulating/code-morphing/whatever, give me 16-bit support back!

corbin,

@foone 32-bit x86 was also added at some point, I can play SimCity 2000 just fine on my ARM Windows 11 VM :)

“There are only two demographics that are willing to pay for good software: corporations and video gamers. We’ve somehow blundered our way into a world where everyone else expects software to be free.” 👏 https://stackoverflow.blog/2023/12/25/is-software-getting-worse/

I’m not really a watch person outside of smartwatches, but I really like the Casio W-217H. It’s so light I forget it’s on my arm sometimes.

Only issue is that I had to replace the stock band because it kept pinching me, now I have a cool orange band. 😎

There aren’t a lot of Lemmy apps for iPhone yet, so I’ve just been using the web version as an installed web app. It actually works pretty well, even with inline image previews and scrolling through long chains of comments.

Has anyone made a website that lists a bunch of popular software with the verified direct download links? That feels like something that should exist with search engines being increasingly unreliable.

I have no idea why Wi-Fi sync with iPhone is so slow. My Mac, router, and iPhone are all Wi-Fi 6, but somehow syncing with Finder or AirDrop is well below USB 2.0 speeds. 🤔

Does anyone have examples of personal sites/portfolio sites that are good? My https://corbin.io site is due for a rework soon and I could use some inspiration :)

Everyone: hey microsoft can you not leave millions of PCs on an unsupported and insecure OS in two years just because they don't meet windows 11's weird requirements

Microsoft: best I can do is copilot AI

corbin,

I still think Apple had it right the first time with the Dashboard, though. The widgets had their own full-screen panel you could open and close, and widgets were just HTML so it was really easy to make them. You could also make any page into a widget, which I would really like in modern macOS.

@dotproto That's always the curse, how many side projects do I want to have lol

Modern e-commerce sites a great. If you search "toilet gasket" you get, as the first result on multiple sites, a "toilet wax ring", which looks similar but does something different and isn't interchangeable

I just released an update for my Peek browser extension! It can now show previews for links to posts on Mastodon, Facebook, and Threads, in addition to the existing support for PDFs, Office documents, YouTube videos, and more.

There’s also a new pop-out button that opens the preview in a new pop-up window. The update is rolling out.

I know a lot of people still hold off on updates for a long time because they might break something, but that's increasingly not a good idea. Leave auto update on!

It’s wild that there’s still no social media tools for most of the Twitter replacements. Buffer has great native Mastodon support, and you can make Mastodon text posts work with IFTTT using Webhooks (which is what I’m doing for @thespacebar), but that’s pretty much it.

Bluesky, Threads, Post News, Substack Notes, etc all have basically nothing outside of very limited enterprise-level stuff or API scripts. I guess everyone’s waiting to see which ones aren’t a fad?

corbin,

@danie10 Oh right, Wordpress jetpack got mastodon support a while back

The new Apple Pencil lineup is a mess now, wow. There are now three Pencils that all charge differently, and don’t all work with the same iPads. The USB-C Pencil isn’t even really an upgrade for the first-gen Pencil which was supposed to be the main point?

Good news for developers: The Pixel Watch 2's new charging puck with POGO pins supports USB data, so you don't have to deal with wireless ADB debugging!

The Pixel Watch 2 will be a good device to test apps on Wear OS 4.

Thanks to Rob for the tip (and images)!
