Side note: System of a Down is literally the only metal band that became famous during the nu-metal era that holds up. And it is assuredly because they talked about things that mattered.

So recently it’s become more broadly known that Serj Tankian, the lead singer of System of a Down, was a software entrepreneur during the MS-DOS era. He ran a firm that managed accounting for jewelers.

So the obvious question about all this, then, is … well, is this software out there?

I don’t know if we will find that answer, but one of my old jobs managed the publishing for JCK, a trade publication for jewelers that has been around for decades. I did a search on the JCK website … and wouldn’t you know it? Serj showed up!

Re: The Dumb Domain Store, I just found out that someone had the same idea as I did a decade ago. They even called it Dumb.Domains. Totally unintentional! I’m actually kind of surprised that someone else came up with this!

Just updated https://dumbdomain.store to do two important things:

  • Add more pricing transparency
  • Added more domains (and cheaper ones from a renewal standpoint)

I left in .christmas because that’s funny but took out .baby, because holy crap that’s expensive.
