Had a very strange dream last night. It was lovely. A big party (I think it was a wedding). All sorts of people were there including some people I haven’t seen for years. And one family member in particular was there and happy and we have a beautiful talk about how she is feeling happy and healthy and everything is wonderful.

Then you wake up and remember that person died nearly a decade ago. I don’t really believe in that sort of heaven but its so nice to think they are at peace and happy (and watching - I certainly still talk to her all the time in my head). But man oh man am I feeling fragile today. Just needed to tell someone before I have a coffee and put my game face on for work. Hug your loved ones peeps.

On the post-sickness get my stomach going train today…

Had lentil soup for lunch. Looked terrible (yellow/brown) but super yum.

Dinner is stir fry beef strips and broccoli with a satay sauce…if I remember I will post a pic.

And ginger tea (just grated/sliced in hot water)

I am over the worst of the cold but pretty fatigued and have a lovely hacking cough… I am getting really depressed about the state of my home though - haven’t had the energy to tidy/clean/cook much or generally adult all week.

So give me your best tips for focusing and moving and cleaning when you don’t feel like it!

(and I will rest but the mental health impact of the clutter is bigger than the physical illness plus I think moving will help clear the snots)

Oh crap what a great idea. Except I’ve missed mine too (about 18months ago apparently). That’s wild.

Will that make David Bowie turn up too? I could live with that

I managed to potter around and get the house respectable. Tidied, clothes away, dishes washed, light vacuum. Need to wipe down the bathroom but I will do that when I have a shower.

Took all day because of an accidental naptime - the sun was streaming in on the bed and I had no choice but to be a cat.

Also what a gorgeous day out there.

Wow. How much steak was that?? There’s a dude at my local farmers market that does four grass fed porterhouse for 30 bucks and that plus a pack of snags or some mince does me for a month or more (I am mostly vego).

I suppose when we start eating the rich we will know they were well fed at least…

I pulled out of babysitting this weekend and felt guilty until I stepped outside into the dressing cold and had a massive coughing fit. Good luck (the little ones have probably had all manner of crud already)

I admit defeat. My head congestion is slowly clearing but I can’t hold a thought in my head. Coffee helped for about 6 mins. I am going back to sleep

This is the way 🙂

Rest up! It’s EVERYWHERE and hit me like a ton of bricks

Yogurt + stuff most days. Stuff is some combo of berries/fruit/nuts/seeds. I make my own granola because store bought is so expensive and I can’t eat oats. This is my usual work breakie because I can chuck it in a jar the day before and it all mixes together.

If I need more ommph and I am at home: fry tomato/spinach/mushies and then pour two whisked eggs (plus salt and pepper) over the top and a handful of pre grated cheese. Easy omelette.

If I need a hug I make two boiled eggs with Vegemite and butter toast soldiers.

I used to eat porridge every day but now I am no oats I miss it. You can get closest with buckwheat but it’s not the same.

And a strong coffee. Usually first.

New unblocked sinuses and an extra six hours sleep please chef

Or if that special is not available I’ll take a super strong coffee

Second last day of holidays and I am sick with a head cold 🤕🤕 luckily didn’t have much planned because it’s now just rest and feeling sorry for myself

Did you hike in ? Is there a good fairly accessible (for someone who doesn’t want to hike for miles on their own) spot?

@imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone avatar

Cool. Ta

@imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone avatar

What’s it called? That sounds fascinating

imoldgreeeg,
@imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone avatar

Thanks!

Thanks for unpacking that. That’s fascinating because I think I had the opposite experience. We were taught to question/argue/think about how things worked (one parent in particular was very big on science and science thinking)…so on one hand I find it hard when people can’t logic themselves out of conspiracies and such…on the other hand I have spent a LOT of time reprogramming the ‘thoughts first, feelings second’ approach to life. And I know from depression that logic can take you to a Baaad place when it’s built on a faulty core belief. Only in the last few years have I been able to experience the ground as just the ground.

Makes me fascinated by this psychology.

How many of you 9-5s have been given work from home forever ?

My mate works for an Indian company and got WFH forever. I was in shock because I never thought any company can give a work from home option forever ? Does any Australian company gives you such an option ? If so, please name those companies and job titles so that I can start applying for jobs there.

imoldgreeeg,
@imoldgreeeg@aussie.zone avatar

Nah I know a few permanent WFH people at atlassian. The company makes a big deal about it so I would be surprised if it changed (this is in Aus)

Oh thanks for the reminder. I got a framework - i7 and 32gb RAM. Happened to have a spare Samsung 1TB SSD sitting around the office that hadn’t fit the desktop it was bought for so popped that in.

Putting it together was easy enough and the instructions+comments were really helpful. Only minor thing was that I bought an ethernet port which sticks out from the side a bit so I am going to get a USB C for that spot and just carry the eithernet port for when I need it.

I am loving it. The screen ratio (it’s 3:2) took a minute to get used to after having a widescreen but I really like it now. Perfect for two windows side by side when programming. I have a separate widescreen display if I really need it. And the screen is a bit matte and quiet easy to look at for long periods of time. Keyboard is nice.

I set it up with Ubuntu 22.04 and the cool thing there is that the framework website has post install instructions for supported distros that take care of some little tweaks and things. That was great and saved some time.

Basically I am very happy with it.
