@daringfireball @gruber You have said you appreciate nitpicky corrections, so: "GameBoy" should be two words. It precedes the recent camel case / pascal casing fad.

@Starfia @daringfireball Yes—adding a site to your home screen (or the Dock on macOS) is a strong indicator of user intent and it should allow the app to prompt for a broader set of permissions (such as vibrate and notifications).

@gruber @illogical_me How I see this: Would Apple let a copy deviation from their style guide through in a keynote? On their website? In their app UIs? Exceedingly rare. They care deeply about that. Precision in app review they care about too, but subtantially less. It occupies a certain spot on their values ranking and it's clearly much lower.

I think a significant amount of my git confusion comes from the terminology and the fact that it's maybe surprisingly un-opinionated? It seems there's always more than one way to do stuff and none of those ways seems to be the "right way," really. Of course there are lots of wrong ways - but again, it seems to depend heavily upon who you talk to.

If git were a game I'd be fine with this, but...

...maybe I should start thinking about git as a game?!

@bigzaphod Three big ideas that helped me really understand git:

  1. A branch is just a moveable label that points to a commit (nothing more)
  2. A commit is not intrinsically on a branch (the branch is not part of the immutable hash)
  3. The reflog (ref log) is just a history of where each branch pointed to (which commits)

The complex commands are a distraction from the underlying simplicity
