Hoping my years of church as a child balance my upcoming actions (about to unironically add vibraslap to a SotW track).

I have wrought my own downfall: MuseScore has weird bugs and after the piece repeats, there's a phantom vibraslap note before the B section, where the instrument first appears. Something something ancient Greeks and hubris.

Today's nostalgia-spelunking reminds me that I'd planned to learn Irish well before meeting a particular person in July '99. Huh. It's on the (archived) web, so it must be true.

Does anyone know the best way to search for a particular GeoCities page? (My old one.) I have these hazy memories of what's on my page, somewhere in TimesSquare. I don't remember the URL. But just like, a few things I was into, words, fragments, etc. Things I'd like to grep. Is there a way to text-search this? A lot of archives I found let you click on neighbourhoods, but I can't find it that way.

Just wanted to add that I know the URLs of every site I've ever had except for this. It's a snapshot of me in grade ten/eleven, something of a transitional time for me. I've been hunting for it for ages. It's my white whale.

I'm constantly amused (and delighted) that Angelfire and Tripod pages still exist in the year of our Lord 2024.

I haven't used Twitter in almost a year, so deleting it didn't feel like anything, but I'm a little surprised by how much I don't miss Reddit. Haven't used it seriously in 7 or 8 years. I'd browse it, post occasionally, but wasn't using it in any sort of meaningful way. It was just, like so many things, inertia.

There were about 800 tweets still on the account (from July 2023, posted after I took my archive). Left those in place and then deactivated. I'm tired of the awful, centralized, corporate internet. I deleted my Reddit account last night. This feels like stepping through a door.

@turgon I think you're right. What if we could combine the best parts of web directories, search engines, curation, and community trust?

Gonna maybe mess around with Lemmy, see if there's anything there, but wow do I ever miss when forums were set up by hobbyists and the thought of selling user data was repugnant.

Been reading a bunch of books about the online, our digital habits, etc. I just finished Cal Newport's "Digital Minimalism", highly-rated, and was underwhelmed. Last year I read Marie Le Conte's "Escape", which got panned by a bunch of people for being a bit sloppy and maybe too personal, but which I adored. At the heart of it, there's still some small amount of optimism in me. I refuse to see the online only as a conduit for commerce and news. I still believe in it as a space for people.

MuseScore has a neat feature where notes will go red if they're out of the range of the instrument, and yellow if they're considered too high or low for an amateur player. I say "interesting" because on guitar, open D (on 6th string) is yellow, when all you have to do is...pluck the open string?

On horn, the G just above the staff is also yellow. I was able to play this after a year or two in high school. I was a decent but generally unremarkable player.

This feature might need tuning. (sorry)
