The quote is from a very interesting article about how an executive order by LA Mayor Karen Bass has massively expanded the amount of affordable housing being built by streamlining the approval process and exempting affordable housing from certain regulations. These changes have brought in for-profit developers who prefer the faster approvals and greater density that building a 100% affordable site now allows.

Not a particularly amazing showing for the DA when ANC support collapses by like 14 points and they gain a whole 1% of voters as a result. Judging from the results so far the ANC will be forced into a coalition with either the EFF, MZ, or the DA. Let's hope they come to an agreement with the DA I guess 🤷‍♀️​

Housing good, parking mandates bad, more at 11. It's interesting to see the precise results of these reforms though. Removing the mandates is really more pro-flexibility than anti-car. The example of the development that would have been illegal under the old code not because it didn't provide parking, but because the parking was next door and technically on a separate lot, was particularly illuminating.

    @fivey the universe in A Fire Upon the Deep kind of works like that. Advanced computers can only operate in certain areas of the galaxy. Planets in the "slow zone" can only support primitive civilization. And solar systems can drift into the slow zone, resulting in their technology gradually becoming inoperable.
