Tomorrow more crooked railway signs of Belgium, but I told @maartje about this one today. Jambes-Est, with paint works to hide the former name Jambes-Etat.

This photo is from 2012, the renaming took place in 1991. These signs were replaced at the latest in the winter of 2016-2017.

There is a rumour going the rounds that almost all Fernverkehr-trains from/to Germany will have required reservations in the summer of 2024. Only exceptions seems to be trains going to Switzerland via Basel 😳

Goodmorning. Two poorly served railway lines in Bourgogne have been on my watchlist for years, and thanks to the long weekend and a very good deal from Eurostar, I finally managed to put them in a plan. Don’t expect a lot of trains, it is SNCF after all. First step: going to Paris #SnailRail

Another new railway entrance in the Netherlands. A company called Flywise wants to run a daily return trip Amsterdam - Berlin and Amsterdam - Paris and three times a week Amsterdam - Basel with classic loc-hauled intercity trains. Flywise is the company behind GreenCityTrip. Information and schedule are (in Dutch) available at the market authority ACM.

Weird. The number on the balcony for this set of ICR carriages I’m in is 16506. But the number for this carriage is 82021. And sets that include a carriage of type 82, always have the last two numbers of this carriage as the last two numbers of the set number. So, what happened here 🤔

In response to questions asked about the information displays at railway stations, :ns_nl_b: announced the following:

• Somewhere in 2024, the relative position of the platform screens to the train will be added. For this, new location measurements have to be made, which will take some time.
• For national trains, in the foreseeable future, NS cannot and will not add the location of specific facilities (like bike storage, first class) to the train length indicator. This is due to the fact that for national trains, NS simply does not know how the train is positioned, and most trains are not symmetric in design.

Official announcement: :ns: and :sncb: are doubling the frequency of international intercity trains from December 2024 from 16 to 32 a day/direction!

There will be a fast train Amsterdam - Brussel/Bruxelles and a slower train Rotterdam - Brussel/Bruxelles.

At the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, Grand Est Mobilités will take over 16 TER 2N NG five car double deckers from Normandy, scheduled to replace the current three car double deckers on the Luxembourg - Metz - Nancy #CrossBorderRail service that have overcrowding issues. Luxembourg is paying half of the 105 million euro costs to build a new maintenance facility near Metz for these trains.
