weeeeum,

Same. My work is only a mile away but there are hardly any sidewalks and I often have to walk next to roads going like 40 mph. Plus all of the intersections and crosswalks are catered for car travel, meaning there has to be absolutely zero cars to give you the signal to walk. Crossing a single crosswalk “legally” takes like 5 or 10 mins of waiting.

In Amsterdam the crosswalks are catered for pedestrians and you typically only need to wait 15-30 seconds as they don’t mind stopping a few cars.

weeeeum,

No offense to the guy, but looking at his post history, I don’t think if this is thoroughly tested advice…

weeeeum,

Being alone doesn’t always make you lonely, and loneliness doesn’t always mean you’re alone. The feeling of loneliness derives from feelings of helplessness or hopelessness.

Counterintuitively, some people make you feel lonely. Abusive people, even if close to you, will often make you feel lonely. Apathetic people can also make you feel lonely.

I’m not sure if this will be a revelation to everyone but it was to me.

weeeeum,

Around an hour. I like reading but there isn’t very much original content to read here. There are tons of articles, but I hate those since there’s so much filler.

weeeeum,

Sure!

weeeeum,

New Vegas is a graphical dilemma for me. It’s obviously graphically dated, but it’s art and graphics style are such a perfect match for the game and atmosphere that I don’t think i’d want to see them updated.

weeeeum,

TF2s aged beautifully (in terms of graphics), the art style carries it astoundingly. Half life 2 and portal look definitively dated but TF2 holds up really well (I know it had graphics updates but still).

weeeeum,

Left 4 dead, in my opinion. It’s fascinating as it’s attempting to look realistic yet doesn’t look very dated. I think it’s because of how good the animations are, and most of the game is dark and gloomy.

Also SCP containment breach. Not graphically impressive but its atmosphere and immersion simply isn’t the same without them. I feel no other SCP games captures the atmosphere of Containment Breach.

As a repair tech, the MacBook airs within 7 or so years are nightmares to repair and aren’t upgradable. I’d personally avoid them because of the headache I’ve had maintaining them.

Also as an experience as a repair tech, we don’t see these often, we rarely see them break. Dells and hps on the other hand, we get one of each nearly every day

weeeeum,

Probably best option here. I worked at a computer repair shop and the prices for used hardware is astounding. Even for something new-ish, mint condition and good specs usually lands around 200-400$.

weeeeum,

They become more repairable, but they are also more obsolete. Used MacBooks are also a lot more expensive compared to other laptops

weeeeum,

Kind of gives me flashbacks to Amazon go stores. Despite them discussing all of their advanced technology to allow you to simply walk out with your groceries, around 70% had to be manually reviewed and corrected by an army of Indian technicians. I have a feeling this is going to be another case of ai meaning “A bunch of Indians”

weeeeum,

I’ll be honest, we’ve tried so many times to save tf2 and the most we’ve gotten is valve logging in to their TF2 Twitter. The hell is signing a petition and mailing it to their office gonna do?

Despite the bots the player count is very high and stable. People are still buying keys and items regardless. Plus making games simply isn’t valves business anymore, they’re a games store and a hardware manufacturer, not a studio. Whether tf2 lives or dies doesn’t matter to them, it’s negligible relative to valve.

I love the game, it’s probably my favorite ever but I’m also a realist. It pains me to say but I don’t think this is gonna go anywhere.

weeeeum,

It was crazy for me seeing cooler master (yes, the PC cooler company) release new “AI thermal paste”. Its just regular-ass thermal paste with very average performance.

weeeeum,

I do it because I don’t really mind a shit show, but I 100% understand those who want to remain out of it. Lemmy is insanely toxic at times and it’s sometimes made me reconsider this platform.

weeeeum,

Ill see what happens, presidents like to talk big before they’re elected, but if everything really goes down the shitter, and project 2025 is successful I’ll seriously consider leaving. Very fortunately I am British by decent. Not the greatest improvement but a significant one nonetheless.

weeeeum,

Dude, I’ve got family there in the UK already, happy to take me in and I don’t mind the change in scenery.

Chill…

weeeeum,

Yeah, I find most wireless headphones sound like hot garbage compared to decent 20$ headphones (Koss KSC75, moondrop chu’s). Any actually decent sounding pair are usually expensive as hell.

I tried really hard to like wireless, I have had like eight different pairs ever since they really came out and disliked all of them. They’d always break, all of the time, constantly. Out of those, like 4 or 5 of them broke in less than a year. Most decent pairs of earbuds and headphones will have replaceable cables, and I know how to solder to repair those that don’t.

Nowadays I completely avoid them, they’re just e-waste disguised as earbuds. I work in computer repair and these things are 9 times out of 10 completely impossible to repair.

weeeeum,

Personally I give gifts that people never knew they wanted. That the value from the gift itself is worth more than the shelf price. My favorite gift is a small, but capable, screwdriver set.

Everyone always tells me it’s lame like “it’s just a tool, it’s so boring”. But every single person I’ve given it to contacts me again in a couple months like clockwork telling me how it saved their butts. Telling me they use it to replace a light switch, repair or tighten up some furniture, replace a part on their bike, take apart their PC and the list goes on.

NO ONE’S first thought after getting 15$ would be a screw driver kit, which is why I give them.

Another one is a luxury nail clipper. One that’s like 20$. Something you’d never spend that kind of money on, but every moment you use it is GLORIOUS.

weeeeum,

This is why I don’t clean my knives after sharpening!

weeeeum,

This is why I avoid them. Just another lie, and guilt trip, to make the consumer spend more money. Dirty their conscious and make them pay to keep it clean.

The same goes for “eco friendly”/“no emissions” products. Guilt you for killing the planet, and changes nothing themselves.

weeeeum,

At least to the people around me, frequent substance us.

weeeeum,

What my friends would say to me is “who cares if they do a bit of weed (understatement), or get drunk once or twice a month?”

Personally, if you need substances to have fun, you’re boring.
