BlondieBuff,

Interesting that native plants don't favour native bees over European bees. I planted all natives in my garden because I thought I was promoting growth of the native population!
Common misconception, I suppose.
I wish there was some viable control method we could set up at home.

BlondieBuff,

Ooh I love the stellar siblings one! They're all great though

BlondieBuff,

Jenna Marbles! She was a youtuber back in the day

BlondieBuff, to Musicals

So people have been fancasting Maitreyi Ramakrishnan lately for a potential future live-action Tangled, and to be fair to her I've never seen her work.

But after seeing Shubshri Kandiah on stage as Jasmine, Cinderella and Belle, she's my pick.

Aside from her incredible vocal and acting skill, she has the most perfect "wide-eyed disney princess" expression. It's uncanny.

BlondieBuff,

Oh yes, that was so funny!

BlondieBuff,

Dude, plain pasta tastes great. No contest.

BlondieBuff,

I only use mobile so idk if it's different on pc, but the little image icon underneath the username will open the posted image underneath the post for you

PLA Sticking to Bed (lemmy.world)

I’m a noob at 3D printing— I got my Ender3 S1 a little under a month ago. I’ve had great success on multiple prints using mostly default settings, up until last week. I had adhesion problems and was told it was likely my nozzle. I tried a spare nozzle and my next two prints were perfect. Since then I’ve had nothing but...

BlondieBuff,

I can't help you with the quality of the prints, but I've found that sticking the bed and print into the freezer for 2-3 mins will help it pop off easily.

BlondieBuff,

There are a lot of people still there because they don't know where else to go, and can't wrap their head around federation, which... can you blame them for that, really?

We need to be making the fediverse an attractive option for current redditors, not starting beef with them just because they're "other" now. How else will we build back the activity, content, and niche communities that brought us all to reddit in the first place?

If Lemmy and Mastodon continues to get popular, we will eventually get Instance wars.

If the descentralization of social networks continue, we will have to prepare for the eventual rise of the instances wars, where people will start to fight about which instance is better and which one is weird to be in and so on, but that’s for the future of us all.

BlondieBuff,

unless they're from an instance that supports hateful content.

I suppose the crux of the matter is what each person thinks hateful content is.

Where do you buy your plants? (aussie.zone)

I used to buy from Bunnings but, since branching out into the Australian natives, I have a local native plant nursery that I frequent in the next suburb across from me here in Newcastle/Lake Macquarie. Shout out to www.newcastlewildflower.com.au/ (Newcastle Wildflower Nursery at Glendale)....

BlondieBuff,

Mostly Bunnings. Any of the larger nurseries near me are over an hour away 😭
I am shameless about taking cuttings from friends and family too

BlondieBuff,

I think it's pretty standard protocol for most women to say the date went well and they would like to meet up again when still face-to-face with the guy they're on the date with.
Minimise the risk of becoming a statistic, and all that.

For messaging with dates, I generally say 2 texts then let them respond (and that's not messages like "hey" "u up?" "Are you there??" But like actual content that they can engage with).

If they don't get back to you, don't take it personally. Just forget and move on.

BlondieBuff,

Yeah tbh you see that kind of thing with non-romantic conversations all the time as well. How many times has someone said "we should hang out more" and you say "yeah, totally!" even though you know you never will, lol.

Definitely a good idea to follow up after the date just to keep the lines of communication open. I don't buy into the whole "wait x amount of time" thing.

BlondieBuff,

If you're that emotionally invested that early on, you may need to do some self-reflection. The early stage of dating someone is not supposed to be a serious-committed-relationship type of vibe. You really are just hanging out and getting to know whether you would like to spend more time with the other person. If you're so invested at that stage that ghosting is considered taxing to you, sit with your own priorities for a while and determine whether you're going into dating with a healthy mindset.

And you don't have to be ruthless to know that your time would be better spent elsewhere. Take the sunk-cost on the chin and move on.

BlondieBuff,

It's trying to simulate tone over text. For situations like your example, the implied question is something like "why do you not know this?" Or "what are you talking about?"

Assume the person is giving you a quizzical facial expression on the other side of the screen, like they're baffled by what you've said.

Everything Must Be Paid for Twice (www.raptitude.com)

One financial lesson they should teach in school is that most of the things we buy have to be paid for twice. There’s the first price, usually paid in dollars, just to gain possession of the desired thing, whatever it is: a book, a budgeting app, a unicycle, a bundle of kale. But then, in order to make use of the thing, you...

BlondieBuff,

If shirts were single-use items, I would agree. But I would say you pay every time you wash and iron it, and put it back to wear again.

BlondieBuff,

Back on reddit, the main way I found new subs was by people mentioning them in the comments of related threads in my existing subs. Once we start getting a bigger level of activity in the "main" communities, I feel like sharing smaller ones will happen organically.
Until then, keep spreading the word :)

BlondieBuff,

I feel like the best reddit posts are going to make their way over here anyway, the same way the best tweets, tiktoks, or tumblr posts made their way to reddit.

I don't think there needs to be a bot reposting everything that gets posted over there, considering all the mod removals and malicious compliance protests mean that overall content quality will likely decline going forward. I can see it getting very spammy very quickly.

OC Australian musicals - an overview and recent developments

While Australia punches well above its weight when it comes to performers, there have been comparatively few locally written and developed shows that have become successful. This may be changing. Over the past 18 months (since the start of 2022) there have been at least thirteen Australian musicals that been either produced...

BlondieBuff,

Great write-up! What is your favourite of all the new Australian musicals you listed at the top?
And what is needed from the general public to support and nurture the Australian musical scene, in your opinion?

BlondieBuff, (edited )

To my shame, I've not seen one! Only started going to musicals in earnest recently, when I finally had the disposable income for tickets and travel. Moulin Rouge was on my radar peripherally, however I didn't like the movie much and, like you, prefer an original score so I never went.

Matilda was incredible, and I think Tim Minchin did an amazing job, but I suppose one guy doesn't make a whole musical Australian.

Other than that, either I've been too late to see the big ones, or too out of touch with theatre news to see the recent ones.

I suppose that's why I'd like to see a bigger and more celebrated theatre industry of our own. I simply never hear about any musicals created here, and I'd like to! Maybe if Aussie musicals got to the point where they are being advertised as much as Hamilton or Wicked were, it would be easier for people like me, people who only skim the surface of what's available, to better support our own.

I think we have some of the best on-stage talent in the industry right now, so I'm glad that home grown talent on the production side is picking up as well.

BlondieBuff,

Wow, I had no idea Broadway was so expensive! I feel lucky now lol

I definitely have passed on shows before because I didn't know whether the price was worth the level of enjoyment I was expecting. And that's as someone who is only paying for one to two tickets. I can't imagine how a family or other large group could justify that kind of cost.
