After a few intense weeks of speculation and drama, more and more labs have been able to recreate LK-99, also known as modified lead-apatite. The material was touted as the first-ever room-temperature ambient pressure superconductor, a claim that was met with healthy skepticism and excitement. After all, extraordinary claims...
This will probably be the outcome but it’s way too early to be making this claim as fact. The article references one lab in China that found no SC. Meanwhile there’s a different lab in China claiming that there is SC.
The material is non-uniform and different crystal structures within the material are expected to have vastly different properties. The original paper was (suspiciously) vague about exactly how to create the material and different labs are following different steps to synthesize it. So it’s expected that they may get different results.
The original samples that inspired the paper have been sent to other labs for testing, those results should give us the final answer.
Unlocking things from a skill tree is a huge improvement. If I want trains early I can focus on unlocking them specifically, instead of having to build a massive city to unlock basic features.
Most people access the Fediverse through one of the large instances: lemmy.world, kbin, or beehaw. New or small instances of Lemmy have no content by default, and can most easily get content by linking to larger Lemmy instances. This is done manually one "Community" at a time (I spent 15 minutes doing this yesterday). Meanwhile,...
The problem with that is users need to make a separate account for each instance. Imagine if you had to re-login every time you wanted to view a different subreddit. It’s a major pain.
That problem could be mitigated if you had an app that could seamlessly log in to multiple instances and display the content in one place. Credentials would be stored locally on your phone for security. Do you know if that exists, or if anyone’s working on something similar?
The first game was heavily CPU-bound. The devs mentioned that their ability to multithread was heavily limited by the version of Unity they were using.
Newer versions of Unity claim to be better for multithreading. I’m really curious to see how much the sequel benefits from that. CS seems like it could really take advantage of many threads with the thousands of cims being simulated at once.
Agree about the cybertruck, but Tesla is not hurting for customers. Their sales numbers are excellent, and are likely to improve now that the model 3 is cheaper and qualifies for the US tax credit.
I wish Elon would see consequences for his actions but it doesn’t seem likely to happen, at least not via Tesla sales.
