A team of researchers from AIRI Institute of Artificial Intelligence, MIPT and FITs of Informatics and Control of RAS took first place in the international Habitat Navigation Challenge 2023 competition for teaching robots how to move indoors.
"This year, the organizers shaped the challenge so that the resulting solutions could be applied to building real robots. Our solution combined classical planning methods and modules based on reinforcement learning. We took into account the experience of previous years and proposed the most advanced and efficient method. We hope that it will soon find its application in robot assistants," said Alexander Panov, lead researcher at AIRI.
The Habitat Navigation Challenge 2023 has been running since 2019. Participants in this competition must train a robot to find given objects in a room simulator, such as apartments and offices, including in unfamiliar environments and without a room map.
This year, a team of Russian scientists led by Alexander Panov took first place in the finals of the competition. The system they created, called #SkillFusion, beat the competition in the ability to move through rooms without a map and search for various objects using a virtual robot.
Russian cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitry Petelin closed the exit hatch of the module "Search" at 23:48 Moscow time.
Astronauts worked on the outer surface of the ISS for 6 hours and 24 minutes. During this time they:
▪ dismantled SeismoPrognoz scientific equipment, equipment of the old data transmission system and transceiver;
▪ installed and connected new high-speed data transmission equipment;
▪ removed from the Zvezda module the tablet No.2 of the Impact experiment and a removable cassette-container;
▪ took photos of the external surface of the #Zvezda;
▪ cleaned the outer surface of the porthole glazing;
▪ dismantled the Biorisk-MSN equipment container from the Poisk module.
