Anyone have a suggestion for a cheap soundbar style computer USB speaker? Something with no LED barf and that doesn't look gamery.

I ended up getting a Creative Stage Air V2 and it sounds OK but has two big issues. 1. The audio coming right below my monitor feels super weird, not sure if it’s something I'd ever get used to. 2. Piano Black plastic 🤮.

Might switch to wall mounted Pebbles but cable length could be problematic.

@paul it’s a shame there are less choices now with AUX stereo in. I would have bought the soundbar intended for my monitor but USB only!

@paul I went with this little soundbar under the main screen. The sound is okay-ish. Good enough for low level music and videos.

@paul late to this, but I ended up just using a Sonos One wired to my Mac. Looks cleaner than most computer speakers, sounds really nice, and it still plays nicely with the rest of my AirPlay 2 speakers in the house.

@paul Not sure what your overall goals are, but I've been using a Klipsch One (predecessor to linked model) on my desk for a couple of years. Sounds great, looks nice, sits under my monitor easily. It's got BT, but I use the hard-wired AUX in. https://www.klipsch.com/products/the-one-plus

@agiletortoise keyword ”cheap", just something to have The YouTube running on the background. Anything where quality matters I'll just use some set of nice headphones + amp/dac.

@paul Fair. If that was the case, I'd watch FB Marketplace for a used JBL Charge 4. You could probably pick up for ~$70, and they are really useful to grab and use on the patio or whatever.

@agiletortoise @paul Greg, How do you connect the Charge 4?

agiletortoise,
@agiletortoise@mastodon.social avatar

@institute1111 @paul It's got an 1/8” AUX in.

@paul I tried them all. They’re all terrible and I’m not even an audio snob. The best cheap speakers are the Creative Pebble. They sound better than all the sound bars 5x their price.

paul,
@paul@tapbots.social avatar

@jefflopes I was actually looking at those, just thought the soundbar style was cleaner.

@paul I started the same way. I didn’t want wires running between speakers on my desk.

I tried the Razer Leviathan and two different Creative models. I even tried a Sonos Beam. The Sonos sounds good but it’s such a pain to use with a PC. It wasn’t worth the hassle.

@paul @jefflopes I did the same exact move - tried a few soundbars, noticed how terrible and expensive they were and ended up with a pair of creative pebble v3.

@teomatteo89 @jefflopes do the keyboard volume keys work on those?
