Hitler was sentenced to 5 years in prison. But he only served 9 months due to a sympathetic judiciary and massive public outcry from his political supporters. If that sounds uncomfortably familiar, it should.
@shoq the difference is that back then nationalism and antisemitism was already quite popular in the german establishment even without nazi influence, which definitely helped Hitler seize power. Let's hope Trump will suffer from lacking such favorable political context.

Tomorrow, the RNC will report Trump’s biggest fundraising day ever, the media will run with that story, and no one will follow up if/when official election filings contradict it
A GOP-sponsored poll will show that Trump's conviction will not lose him any votes, and the media will run with that too
Unfortunately I was enjoying a lovely break on the beach, logged into Mastodon and saw some ugly.
I have been promising myself to start moving away from commenting on what is happening in the moment and talk about more general legal issues. It invites less anger and hate.
Like everyone else, I'm relieved that it wasn't a hung jury or acquittal.
I have no doubt there will be an appeal because there are appealable issues.
