Are there any EV cars without any "technology"?

Like the title says, are there any EVs that just have a Bluetooth radio and that’s it? Like a normal car, not a smartphone on wheels? If not, do you all think that this will actually happen at some point? This is the main reason why I can’t (and will never) buy an EV. I like to have actual buttons everywhere on my car. I...

Brkdncr,

Mitsubishi has been selling one for nearly a decade. It’s not great.

Toyota has a Corolla hybrid that seems pretty close.

The issue is that why would they build a budget EV when they can sell an expensive, high margin, EV? The batteries are low supply, high demand so they should be wringing every dollar possible from it.

Things where federal and California regulations step in and force these vehicles into market.

Brkdncr,

Set up iperf on a machine connected to your router.

From your machine, connect it to the router too and see if iperf shows good speed.

Take your machine to another room and plug into your lan and test again.

If the speed is considerably lower then yes you have an internal network issue. I would look into how the cables connect to the router. It might be an old or cheap switch. It could also be the cables or cable ends themselves. I’ve seen cables that are terminated poorly cause slowness. I’ve seen two connections in a single cable end work but have lots of problems.

Brkdncr,

The attack chains commence with the exploitation of ProxyShell flaws (CVE-2021-34473, CVE-2021-34523, and CVE-2021-31207) that were originally patched by Microsoft in May 2021.

Brkdncr,

I’ve always thought that local gov should be able to provide a baseline level of access to the internet, with commercial vendors bringing services and value above that baseline. Sadly our elected representatives were convinced otherwise. I’m glad to see movement in the right direction though.

Brkdncr,

I’m OP, I’m not unwilling. I couldn’t turn this laptop over to anyone else though.

Also, I don’t hate Linux nor do I love windows. I hate windows probably more, for other reasons. The pinnacle OS for me is OSX as distributed on the BlackBerry passport.

I’m even on an Apple phone right now.

It’s not difficult to empathize with non-technical people though, which is why my post is about.

Brkdncr,

So 2025 is the year of Linux desktop? This time for real.

Brkdncr,

I would be surprised if 5% of the people that use a computer at all know how to work a CLI of any form.

Additionally, when you get a response from the command that the dependencies failed to install, what is the typical computer operator expected to do? They are already far outside of their abilities at this point.

Brkdncr,

Yes we can be unpopular together.

Brkdncr,

You assume people can. Simply moving between browsers is a problem for most people. you overestimate how technical competent most people are.

Brkdncr, (edited )

I wish it wasn’t true.

Also, let’s pretend it’s operator error. What should the typical user do? Reach out to a family friend that works in Linux?

Just thinking about my extended family, I can pick out 3 people that know windows, one that knows osx, and I would be the only one that knows anything about Linux. I suspect this is the norm.

Brkdncr,

No, and I will now.

Brkdncr,

Ooh in actual know this one: licensing. It costs money to commercially distribute the decoder.

Brkdncr,

I was paraphrasing…

Brkdncr,

Both mint and Ubuntu had issues with simple things like updating or running software, out of the box. Normal computer users won’t put up with that.

Brkdncr,

So Linux is fine until you need to print, use software and some other scenarios? Explain that to my niece.

Brkdncr,

Maybe for a same-circuit device that’s consuming more than the breaker can provide? I don’t know enough about this tech but would expect this can be accounted for in some way.

Brkdncr,

Your breaker will pop. Just like if you were to run a hair dryer on each outlet.

Brkdncr,

You can do that today with their setup I think. You would need to plug the pump into one of their batteries and run their solar panel to the battery. You’d also put the battery on grid power.

The article is focused on an inverter that pushes energy back to the grid, something we don’t have yet at this market level.

Brkdncr,

I’m in a blue state, so mostly help friends and family in red states. Specifically, help people access reproductive care.

Besides that, put more effort into local government.
