Eh, crap, re-implementing stricter personal COVID-19 measures after just relaxing them, an (entire) family I know with COVID or recovering, after catching it from an older relative who was hospitalized--they later figured out, COVID-19. (ie Once again, moving back to "all indoor interaction in public N95" -- pondering where I'll go with outdoor in crowds.).

ClimateJenny,
@ClimateJenny@mastodon.social avatar

@PedestrianError @jlamoree @ai6yr Not to mention the people who are sure their recent sickness couldn’t have been Covid, so they take your daughter and your daughter’s friend (both of whom are staying at your house) out to dinner, indoors, unmasked.

And then you get sick with the exact same symptoms, but unlike this person, you actually take a test, and guess what you have?

What Is Asymptomatic COVID-19 and Are You Contagious? | clevelandclinic.org

Simply put, the word “asymptomatic” means being sick without having symptoms. No fever, no cough, no body aches, no fatigue. Nothing. Your body’s actively battling a disease — and in some cases spreading it — without you even realizing you’re unwell.

It’s called being an “asymptomatic carrier.” Asymptomatic carriage isn’t something that happens with all diseases, but it does happen with COVID-19.

"Asymptomatic COVID-19 is quite common. Scientists think that at least 20% of all people infected with COVID-19 never have symptoms."

This is a question from @RossA that I had missed from a while ago:

Q3. I'm currently struggling to find the ‘mojo’ to get out cycling regularly. What do others do to keep the cycling fresh and fun?

(If I've missed your question before, don't feel bad if you need to remind me as I have missed a few. Using the BikeNitePQ hashtag helps)

ClimateJenny,
@ClimateJenny@mastodon.social avatar

@meganL @ascentale @RossA A3. That’s one of the superpowers of biking: you can actually observe and interact with your surroundings. This is a plus in some places and a minus in others, but, yeah, I do a lot of botanizing while biking.

I sympathize with Judge Merchan, who I believe has refrained from jailing Trump to avoid allowing Trump to play the victim and raise money off of that. I also think Merchan probably doesn’t want to interrupt the trial for hearings over whether Trump is causing his sycophantic Republican electeds to say things that violate the gag order. But …. 1/

@heidilifeldman I’m having trouble imagining what to do about it.

Question for fellow @actuallyautistic and @actuallyadhd neurodivergent folks:

How do you explain your ideas to neurotypicals?

I constantly struggle because my brain has made connections that are not obvious to others, and when I try to guide them through my thinking I confuse them with details or by skipping explanations that seem obvious to me but completely surprising to anyone else.

Frameworks, links, anything is appreciated!

ClimateJenny,
@ClimateJenny@mastodon.social avatar

@mariyadelano @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd All I can tell you is that, whenever I write anything, I finish writing it and then edit it to flip the order to make the conclusion the introduction. This works just about every time. Harder to do in conversation, of course.

You can do something: Garden for wildlife! If you own land, manage it as habitat. Add and grow lots of plants native to your area, which will feed birds and their babies. If you are anywhere near semi-natural areas, the land will heal itself over time, if you let it.

I’ve done this, and birds I’ve never heard before are singing in my garden this spring. #NativePlants #habitat #rewilding #birds

Saw an "Earth Day project" on re-using soda pop liter bottles as planters, and rather than "oh neat what an earthy day thing to do" my brain said: "that's a drop in the bucket of soda bottle waste... and that stuff degrades into horrible little bits of plastic in the garden... maybe avoid buying the giant soda bottle in the first place?" 🤔

It's April 19th and welcome to BikeNite! Thanks for joining, and I hope we all enjoy chatting about cycle stuff! Feel free to answer whenever at your convenience. Anyone can join, now or later. Reply to what you like, and boost for visibility.

We'll start out with our introduction:

Q1. Where are you posting from today? What's going on in your cycle-world?
#BikeNite #BikeNiteQ

ClimateJenny,
@ClimateJenny@mastodon.social avatar

@younata @ascentale That’s super interesting and I need to watch the whole thing when I have more time! You’ve also generated a new question from me for : how can a person with extremely minimal bike mechanic skills (i.e can fix a flat) level up for an e-bike? Are there good videos, books? Do bike shops still do classes?

ClimateJenny,
@ClimateJenny@mastodon.social avatar

@enobacon @younata @ascentale No, you overestimate me! I just want to be able to change a flat on my e-bike. And I want to understand minimal maintenance on an e-bike! Just the very basic stuff, so I’m not completely dependent on a bike shop for basic needs.

I am inspired and awed by the skills and knowledge y’all have, but I’m just some dummy who wandered into to lurk and learn.
