Woot! Got my Meater bluetooth meat thermometer charged, and paired with my phone via the Meater App. There are some things you need to identify to set it up like exactly what model you have and if there's a plus sign on the charging case and I didn't know for sure so I had to fool with it a bit but it's ready! Now I just need to decide what to cook.

I often wonder about people who say stuff like, things were better when I was a child, in the 70s or 80s, things were better/cheaper/people loved each other more… And the whole time I am thinking that is just not true for me! I have never once during my adult existence long for the powerlessness and terror that was childhood. I would never trade what I have now for life 30 years ago! It makes me sad to think there are folks who feel that their best days are behind them

@lifewithtrees @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd No more than a truck driver who is required to be cited or a piano tuner who is required to be hearing at least well enough to hear it the equipment they are tuning. As someone who is deafblind , I guess I have just come to understand that there are some jobs I will not be able to do.

can tell black thing is starting to get older. we just did a 12 hour work day with lots of travel and he is just wiped and sleeping like he is dead. someone came to the door and he didn't even move. also, at the end, he was getting kind of sloppy. He's still good but these 12 hour days do him in.

Finally decided that I'm going to buy a braille notetaker to replace my rapidly aging and probably failing Mac. It's honestly easier than hauling around laptop+braille display. Literally the only thing I'm going to use it for is keeping notes and writing invoices. So if anyone is selling one I'd like to chat.

@simon @SerenaTori I have a mantis and love it but it doesn't write rtf files. And this is something i really need and I don't want to have to convert 7 years worth of rtf files in order to make them writable. But I agree I love my mantis it's so great! It's my favorite display for reading closed captions.

@simon @SerenaTori I don't actually have a functioning laptop at this time. I did purchase a second hand touch and I think it's going to work awesome and is the perfect size. Thanks though. Also I haven't used windows in over 10 years and the rtf docs are for my business and weirdly it's the one format everyone can seem to read. So I don't want to fix what ain't broke. Watch now I said that it'll break haha.

@simon @SerenaTori I use my phone for everything, and it is either paired with a chameleon or the mantis depending on if I am at home or on the road for work. Because I'm deafblind, I always have to have a display and having a laptop as well is just a lot of equipment to haul around. I also don't really care for the screen reader experience either with Windows or Mac and prefer that on the phone. The braille note is only for writing business documents.

@lynnskyi @simon @SerenaTori Many people who are deafblind tend to use this method. I know at least eight off the top of my head. There is the issue of the need for the braille display, which adds wait and bulk to any set up or work bag, so adding a laptop just Makes it Ridiculous! I travel for my job, and the less crap I have to carry, the better! I can do everything I need for work with a 20 cell display and a phone and it is brilliant.

They say we are going to get between two and 3 inches of rain today, so my interpreter is heading to my house with all of her dogs because we would like to have all dogs in one central location since today is very busy and if there is street flooding, it is easier if we only have one house to try and get to. Lucky for me, she is stopping on her way here to get me a boudan breakfast burrito,as well as an iced latte. We are then headed into the country where the flooding is bound to be a lot worse

Right now, I am reading a historical fiction series that is set in the 1700s and in this particular installment, one of the main characters has learned how to vaccinate people for smallpox, and a lot of the story has to do with the villagers reluctance to be vaccinated, and as I read, I think the more things change, the more things stay the same!

When my own mother was emotionally abusive and allowed so much physical abuse at the hands of my father...

Well my meeting with the pro-bono psychotherapist was a bust. He doesn’t believe in bipolar and thinks it’s basically a marketing ploy by Big Pharma. So that’s really not a good fit with me and my worldview, the diagnosis makes sense of my experiences in a way no other explanation has. Guess I will have to shop around for a therapist.

@purplepadma WTF! Does this person have brain worms, too? I don't understand why people with chronic illnesses also have to find the spoons to find and vet the doctors who will help us get better. Finding the right doctor or therapist is more than half the battle. This is the last thing you need. I'm sending you peaceful thoughts.

Question for people who know more about police abolition/reform than I do. Often you see things like "don't call cops." but there's NEVER any resources that tell people what other options they have Rule number one in teaching is you have to define the behavior you want telling people what not to do but giving them ideas for alternatives doesn't help, so I'd love some websites with ideas. Also please don't @ me about why cops are good or necessary. This is a specific question.

What you don't realize before you work with terminally ill children is that mostly you forget they're ill and it's just everyday stuff. And then other days you are slapped in the face with rapid decline and the knowledge that this child will not live to graduate high school. That the world sucks and is supremely unfair and will break your heart.

File under "Spectacular AI fails!" So I just got my monthly witch box from @InkedGoddessCreations and one of the items was "vampire's blood" incense and the card that came with the box said to read the box for more information. So since I had the OCR app out to read the card, I used it on the box, this is the picture I took and you can read the alt text to see what it thinks is inside. I laughed so hard! Please repost this for the idiots in the back who think "self driving cars" are a good idea!

Phoenix got a pretty good report at the vet! Perfectly healthy, nice teeth, but her ears were full of literal dirt. Not wax, or any kind of infection, it was like she was trying to grow vegetables in her ear canals. We cleaned them out and she is extremely displeased. I decided to come home because she did get the heartworm shot and the lepto vaccine and I know how I feel after vaccines. I don't feel like it's necessary to ask her to work after she gets one. Time for compensatory belly rubs.
