Kid complained that the laptop would shut down while playing WoW. Did also lots of noise for not much cooling. Guess it was really time to clear out the realm of the dust bunnies in that one.

All laptops die of heat eventually (if not killed by sudden de-acceleration).

Opened laptop on it's back with exposed head exchange grill clogged with dust. Doesn't even look like much but it's enough to stall any decent air flow.

I real LOVE the fact Mastodon and most of the Fediverse software avoids this all together

My little home server is an ancient machine, using platter drives. It also sits next to me on a filing cabinet. Yesterday, friends on Discord said they could hear a "clicking noise" on my mic which turned out to be the hard drives doing their hard drive thing.

I might need to move my home hosting empire back into the cloud. I'm not sure it's a Good Sign that the machine is making sounds loud enough to hear on the mic from across the room.

If you stream games on Twitch and make clips on youtube, but you aren’t a YT partner (less than 1000 subs) and you have 10 regular viewers on Twitch and you REALLY love what you do, can you technically consider it your career if you really believe in it?

I don’t want to put my definition of career meaning here so I don’t put words into your mouth. I need to know if the above can be considered a career.

Indiana Jones' notebook exists as prop on eBay or Amazon. sadly is a Chinese reproduction of the "real" material, so cheap copies and unreadable maps. I'm not a fan of the franchise, but I love the idea!

Installed on my Linux PC today. Took a while until I understood how to add some ARM emulation support. Followed instructions for adding Google PlayStore, hooked up the Xbox 360 controller and fired up where the little one immediately started to show me the ropes.

Given the importance placed on CLI usage by many in the Linux community it's weird that a terminal isn't open by default on many Distros. Today I remembered that while on Antergos a few years ago I'd installed a terminal that you could call simply by pressing a hotkey.

Enter Yakuake ("Yah-quake")

Yakuake smoothly drops down from the top of your screen in response to the hotkey (the default is F12) and voila!: a ready to use terminal! Add it to Autostart and it'll run whenever you run a session of Linux, forever saving you having to load Konsole (or whatever) every time you want to use it.

And as I'm running KDE the fact it uses Konsole tech means it has that familiar look and feel, but shows Session tabbing by default foregrounding the ability to run separate terminal sessions and putting it within easy reach of GUI users and a mouse-click.

found the rest of a discarded wallet on the street, just filled with the remaining cards the thief did not take. brought it to police station. was mistake, because it took over an hour. next time I try not to get fingerprints on it and drop it at police station mailbox.
