Yucky #SpaceWeather and #terrestrialweather. No #POTA or Home operating today. My QTH antenna has been disconnected for days due to #solarflares and rain with imbedded thunderstorms. #AmateurRadio #Hamradio

chrisfarnham,

@AE4WX @N4JAW I had my first unsuccessful activation yesterday. I'm using it to remind myself that what we're doing actually takes some skill (and luck) and no POTA activation attempt is guarunteed.

chrisfarnham,
chrisfarnham,

@AE4WX @N4JAW yesterday, morning (Eastern Time) I could see that I was getting out. I think I may have even heard a response or two to my CQ calls but the noise floor was so high I couldn't hear anything.

I was operating at 20 watts with my G90.

I wrote up my first CW only POTA activation of Minuteman National Historic Park for my personal website.

@timbray We had a conversation in the past where I asked you about the comment integration for https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/

I forked emfed and used it to add fediverse based comments and replies https://github.com/sampsyo/emfed/pull/15

You can see an example here
https://journal.seefar.dev/sections/VHF_HotSpot/

I'm not the first to think of this of course: https://carlschwan.eu/2020/12/29/adding-comments-to-your-static-blog-with-mastodon/

I've just updated my site to share my VHF digital hotspot setup with you all.

https://journal.seefar.dev/sections/VHF_HotSpot/

Have you played around with digital VHF radio? What are you favorite talk groups?

VE6LK, to random

I just participated in my first K1USN Slow Speed Test [contest] to try and build up my CW skill. I'm good at POTA exchanges and not so much for anything else.

This is simple for those of you who like QRS. Details are here http://k1usn.com/sst.html

I'll do this again

chrisfarnham,

@VE6LK Welcome to the SST party. BTW - I'm enjoying your "One CW Question" series. Good stuff!

I wrote a short post relating my experiences with SST here if you're interested. https://journal.seefar.dev/sections/CW_SST_activity/

Last weekend I participated in Jamboree on the Air with my son's Scout troop. We were lucky to have some friends from a local club support our event. A lot of Scouts learned about radio and got on the air.

My dog Daisy found something lost at the park nearby.

chrisfarnham,

@Saltssaltgirl Daisy is a mutt, part mini-poodle part Bernese

Where’s Assaf?

The past three months have been quite the adventure. On May 4, I was headed home, walking back from my regular coffee shop, and was hit by a car going way too fast.‌

‌‌

‌Seriously hit. Broken bones, torn liver, spinal cord injury, the works. I ended up in ICU, sedated for two weeks, underwent 7 surgeries. They were not sure that I’d make it out alive, or fully recover, possibly be paralyzed.‌

chrisfarnham,

@assaf We aren't personal friends but I am a regular reader of your excellent weekly post. I was wondering what was going on. I wish you the best in your recovery.

Some patio radio operations this afternoon.

@timbray What are you using for a comment system on your site, https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/ ?

I'm thinking I'd like to add something similar to my own static site, https://journal.seefar.dev/

chrisfarnham,

@timbray thank... Thinking maybe I use your writeup as the beginning of my own feature spec (I like your approach), dust off my clojure skills and roll my own.

I've been looking for an excuse to play around with clojure again.

Daisy and her buddy Appa lounging in our back yard. She insisted I let her bring Appa out even though he isn't an "outdoor toy".

Set up a field radio station while camping yesterday. Notable contacts were Austria and Slovakia from Massachusetts
