Trying out bridgy fed, posting this on mastodon

jasonbrooks,

@luis_in_brief No idea :)

jasonbrooks,
@jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

@luis_in_brief I guess the point may be I can follow ppl who've opted in in either place?

jasonbrooks,
@jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

@luis_in_brief Yeah. Is there not another way to do that? I noticed this service, but haven't tried it: https://kevquirk.com/cross-posting-with-echofeed

jasonbrooks,
@jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

@luis_in_brief I don't know. I made a python script that posts from a list of accts on here to bluesky, it works all right: https://bsky.app/profile/giantbot.bsky.social

jasonbrooks,
@jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

@luis_in_brief I have them in list, but I think mastodon doesn't have public lists?

Yeah, i asked my comic artist friend to draw the joker for my private amusement and he did the same thing. Now what?

jasonbrooks,
@jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

@fuzzychef @ed I don't get too hung up on the magic of having a human holding the pen.

Imagine asking an intern to draw a picture of the Joker. They don't know what the Joker looks like, so they search online and find pictures and draw the Joker based on that. This is what's happening with the AI tool. It'd be up to you to tell the intern, no, this is too similar to be used, and that's what the AI tool user would've needed to do.

In this case, though, someone likely used the AI tool with the aim of finding a troublingly close rendition of a copyrighted image, the tool certainly offered options, and the human chose what they desired.

@fuzzychef @ed IANAL, but a quick google search suggests that drawing from a photograph can be copyright infringement

    So, if I were going to make a tech manifesto, it might be something like:

    • protocols not platforms
    • coops and unions
    • technology should not actively hurt us
    • people not users
    • seven generations, seven continents
    • free markets require antitrust enforcement
    jasonbrooks,
    @jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

    @evan Yours is nice and short ;)

    @evan @ironchamber @u24 Ah, I got the generations bit, but was googling for the continents part

    I've really been enjoying custom feeds on Bluesky, and they just added a feature to sprinkle posts from your feeds into your main timeline. I wish the fediverse wasn't so hostile to this sort of thing.

    Let's break free from chrono-absolutism -- we can have better living through (user controlled) algorithms.

    Also, I have one unused invite for bluesky atm, if you seem cool and you'd like to check that place out.

    jasonbrooks,
    @jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

    @sesivany That's cool, the tools work with fediverse accounts?

    Thanks to the Open Source Initiative, one of the best open-source and Linux how-to and feature sites is coming back to life. https://opensourcewatch.beehiiv.com/p/invaluable-opensourcecom-site-reborn-opensourcenet by sjvn

    The Open Source Initiative has good news. They're bringing dot com back under the name OpenSource dot net.

    jasonbrooks,
    @jasonbrooks@sfba.social avatar

    @sjvn I'm glad that they're accepting new content there. One correction, nothing went dark at opensource.com, check it out, all the old content is still there.

    @volkswagenchick @sjvn I don't know what the plan is for the future, just what's accurate now
